  • Ann Coulter calls the President

    a retard in several tweets

mentally disabled persons and parents of special needs children are up in arms.

why oh why do these people keep shooting themselves in the foot, the ass, the mouth, etc.???????

and then she responds with this gem
“The only people who will be offended are too retarded to understand it” -- is unlikely to endear her to any of them, and special needs parents have been vocal about why
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

I got one foot on a banana peel and the other in the Twilight Zone.

I'm stunned that anyone votes for any party she supports.

The real nuts love her because she dares to be politically incorrect. She's stands up to the man, man!

I've never understood how being an asshat somehow makes you courageous. But it gets her ratings so expect her to keep doing it.
Good news! Your insurance company says they'll cover you. Unfortunately, they also say it will be with dirt.

I read this on the news the evening before last. Maybe I've been under a rock, but I haven't heard much from Ann Coulter lately.

Thing is, people get outraged at people like her for saying the things they say, but at the same time, they eat that outrage up. Heck, I'd be willing to bet they do it just so the news networks and pundits will talk about them, thus giving them free publicity.

Even though I do find most of what Coulter says disgusting, I can't help but shake my head at the people who are coming forward with stories about their son, daughter, child of a friend, etc. who is special needs and how Coulter is showing bigotry toward them by saying this. Sure, Coulter is a bigot. However, people like her who support conservative ideals are not going to give a crap about someone's special needs kid, so telling them these stories is pointless.

I simply cannot believe anyone can bring themselves to vote Republican these days.

That's always surprised me. However, these days I know that some are supportive of older Republican ideals rather than the modern stuff and are hoping for something not so bat-shit insane. Others know no other way and don't want to admit they were wrong.

                The rest? Fuck knows.

I have thought on this for some time and here is what I have come up with.

                  1. They were raised to think a certain way and are unable or unwilling to break away.
                  2. Like Raps said, they remember that the republican party used to stand for fiscal responsibility and a small government.
                  3. They are only able to receive news through Fox, all other news organs are unable to get through to them.
                  4. They are morons.
                  5. They allow their hate to think for them. That is to say, those who are racist feel that any welfare programs that support blacks (even if whites benefit from them) are evil and must be abolished.
                  6. People who vote their religion. Those most steadfastly against abortion are almost always against it not for medical reasons, but because their religion tells them its wrong.
                  7. People who wrongly believe that everything of value done, was done by amazing individuals without the aid nor input of anyone else. Since mankind stood up and became self aware, whether you believe in a divine plan or not, everything we have done has been built upon what others before us have done. This is fact. We would not have nuclear energy if someone didnt rub a couple of sticks together. Current republicans sing to these people because of the 'boot strappiness'.

The themes of all of these lead right back to the education level of people. And not just education, I also mean the ability to reason and think ahead at possible and likely outcomes.

The Republican Party hasn't actually performed fiscal responsibility and small government since before I was a teenager. They use those as talking points to rally their fan base, but once they're in power, they're responsible for bigger spending, bigger government, and more pork-barrel politics than the Democrats (which is not to say that the Democrats don't do that as well - they do, just nowhere near as bad).

One evening, at the bookstore where I used to work, a co-worker and I were refilling the "New Releases" display.

I looked at the cover of Ann Coulter's "Demonic : How the Liberal Mob is Endangering America," and commented, "Jeez, lady, get a thesaurus, would ya?"

But, setting aside her lack of originality ... You know, I have always said this about Ann Coulter :

She has made a career out of targeting a particular market - conservatives - and selling them a sense of superiority. Ann Coulter is constantly feeding conservatives the belief that they're on the right side of every issue, and that liberals are "universally wrong about everything."

Unfortunately, human nature being what it is, it works.

Nobody likes to believe that they might be wrong. All too often, people will fall into the trap of listening to the person who is telling them, "No, no, don't worry about it, you're totally right, and they're totally wrong. There isn't even any gray here. It's all black-and-white. In fact, not only are you right and they're wrong, but you're the only decent, intelligent people here. They're just terrible, stupid people. You are so much better than they are ..."

That's how people like Ann Coulter become so popular and successful. She will say whatever her target audience wants to hear, regardless of whether it's true or not, regardless even of whether she herself believes it.

I don't doubt that Ann Coulter really is conservative, but I would be very surprised if she actually believed even a quarter of the things she says.

Ann Coulter is not a political advocate. She's a salesperson - and, unfortunately, judging by the bestseller lists, a good one.
"Well, the good news is that no matter who wins, you all lose."

I saw that. I was more referring to Palin's previous flipout over the use of the word "retard" and the hypocritical silence now that someone from her "team" did it.

I have no doubt half of Coulter's persona is there to sell books and tv appearences. However, the other half is a miserable, bitter, cold hearted hosebeast devoid of morals or principles. Some of the things she's said and done have come from more than just greed.

I figured you meant as much. I've seen a few posts on tumblr and the like asking "Whens Palin gonna flip out?" to that effect.

I remember the first time I came across one of her books, when I was a teen visiting the local library--I read the inside cover jacket, and it made me feel ill. =/ I have to agree with you that a good chunk of what she says and does is just to sell books, but...yeah. The language she uses...even if its just to sell her books, thats some cold shit there.
