Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer who makes his money by saying outrageous things for the genuine wingnuts to nod their heads and agree with (and support his show by buying his overpriced tchotchkes).

20 years ago, I said (with confidence!) that Rush didn't believe most of what he said, and that he was essentially running a long con on his audience*. Today... I have no idea. It's entirely possible that he's been drinking his own kool-aid.

      * Part of my evidence for that was his nickname for his eager supporters - dittoheads. It was blazingly clear in the way that he used it that it wasn't a term of endearment for them.

But they didn't delay the end of the Convention. So what difference would it have made? IF anything, it would have saved the Republicans money because they didn't have a junk day.

I guess he's also criticizing Christie for appearing with Obama and actually praising that. Here I thought we were Team American and not Team REpublican or Team Democrat.

Reps and Dems gave that up LONG ago (for the most part)..now it is "I'm going to get mine, heck with anybody else" Reminds me of Rome right before they fell...

You may be saying this in jest, but there's a lot more in common than you might realize.

            Other hallmarks of self-destructing societies:
            • A rapidly-increasing disparity between the people at the top and the people at the bottom
            • A greater degree of sexual adventurousness, and greater degree of exhibitionism and voyeurism
            • A rapidly-increasing disparity and increasing conflict between the sexually prudish and the sexually adventurous
            • An increase in people of every social strata giving up, and removing themselves from society
            • Dramatically reduced trust in the political system, and greater perception of corruption (regardless of the actual level of corruption)

            Look familiar?

Edit: If you want to see what the US is going to be doing in the next 20 to 50 years, watch Japan over the next 10. Possibly sooner.

I've been saying for years that the US is going down the path of the Roman Empire. It just gets more and more real seeming every day :/

I don't think we'll necessarily go down the path of the Romans but we might be closer to Britain and France. I could also see the country fracturing at some point.

There's only one true Rush, and they're from Canada.

No, I was not saying it in jest. History has proven, all great (or at least considered great..if they are or not is beside the point) nations fall...and there is a lot of similarities that happen with all of them. One thing I would like to add to your list is this.

They try to do too much..and stretch themselves too thin. Works for awhile, and technology helps..but in the end there is only so much resources and so much a nation can do. As much as I am a humanitarian and believe we should help people..and yes all over the world, we need to stop playing police..and start focusing on our own people.

What was it earlier last week.....the nuts were thinking Hurricane Sandy was God's way of ensuring that Romney wins?

This is the shit my dad watches all day long on the TV.

On a related topic... I read today that Limbaugh called Christie a "Greek column." I cannot find anything about that phrase that isn't related to architecture. Does anybody here have a clear understanding of what that term means in that context and why it would mean that?
"My in-laws are country people and at night you can hear their distinctive howl."
