One reason is right now we have a 'lame duck' congress and senate. Republicans control one, Dems the other. In the past four years, Republicans have been very reluctant to work with Obama..mostly because he IS Obama..but a lot of it is also that he IS a Democrat. Things have ground to a halt, and nothing is getting done. So one can suggest a different candidate would be needed to break that gridlock, so voting against Obama is actually voting against the current gridlock. With the hope that the Democrats would be a bit more willing to play ball then the republicans have been in the last four years.

There, a decent argument for voting against Obama...

Note I still say Mytical for president in 2016..but hey..I'd really mess things up.
I know you don't claim to believe this yourself, so please don't take this personally, but wouldn't doing that be the same as giving in to a bully's demands? I feel like that's one of the things the Republicans were banking on. I know some Republicans prioritized obstructionism as a "response" to Obama's presidency.

Actually, it would. The GOP has been the bully in Congress, throwing their weight around as they would rather the entire ship sink than have to work with Obama.

Personally I wouldn't have voted Republican this time regardless who was running. Right now, I am sort of scared of the current bat **** insanity they have been spouting. As in, I'd rather face a zombie horde type scared. While it might indeed be giving in..it IS a reason..to get the government going again instead of the deadlock we are in.

However, come next two years it might no longer be a reason. People seem to be getting tired of the gridlock..Republicans might just lose control of ANYTHING if they don't start showing they are willing to cooperate.

Which is why instead of voting Obama out of office, a lot of Republicans have been voted out of Congress. Different method, same result.

At this point, I tentatively think we might see a somewhat nasty party split on the right wing side--between the extremists who want to double down on obstructionism, and the few sane heads who realize how utterly that would destroy their power base come 2014 election.

If the Republicans would stop catering to the loonies and the teabaggers, maybe, just maybe people would be willing to vote for them. News flash: Women don't want you all up in their reproductive organs, most people either don't give a damn or open support gay marriage and treat rape for what it is, a violent act of power that needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extend of the law. What people do care about is keeping or getting a job, putting food on the table and making sure that their kids are going to a decent school where they are teaching real science instead of some fundies' attempt to make their religion seem like a legitimate scientific theory. The GOP needs to really get their priorities straight and quick before they become as insignificant as the Whig party.

One of my friends is a reasonable republican (by reasonable I mean we can have political debates and not hate each other afterwards.) He said he leans republican because he thinks that democratic economic policies are bad for the deficit, and claims Clinton was only able to balance the budget by gutting the military, which was why we had such a hard time in Iraq. He also thinks that gays should be allowed to have civil unions with the full benefits of a civil marriage, but that the word "marriage" should be left to the religious institutions. I don't agree with either point, but I can respect where he's coming from.

That said, he says he doesn't like where the modern Republican Party is headed, and that he voted for a third party in 2008 because he couldn't bring himself to vote for a candidate that thought Sarah Palin would make a good running mate. I don't know if he voted for Romney or not; the last time I talked to him was before the election, and he hadn't yet made up his mind whether to vote third-party again or not.

I really do think (and hope) that there will be a schism in the GOP soon; There's just too much difference between right-of center republicans and the far-right loons, and sooner or later it's going to reach the breaking point. I've seen too many people, both on the internet and in real life, saying that they don't agree with Obama's policies, but they're horrified by what's happening to the GOP, and don't know what to do. Sooner or later, push is going to come to shove, and the sane people are going to kick the loonies to the curb.

Nope, I refuse, until the hypocracy of the negro race in voting for Obama because he's also of the negro race. Until then all votes for or against, disagreements with Obama are based upon race.
Until Obama comes on TV and publically says playing the race card is wrong then everyone is racist.

Your argument is incoherent and useless. Try arguing an actual position, instead of a wild parody of one. Better yet, argue based on your own thoughts, not some projection of what you think other people think.

Yup, you figured it out. All of us who voted for Obama did it because he's our race....oh wait, I'm so white that I glow....and I don't frelling care about race either. I voted for Obama because I can see things are slowly getting better despite the obstructionist Congress that he has to work with. I voted for Obama because he stays the hell out of my medical business and doesn't particularly care if I want to sleep with a man or a woman (or both ). I like being left the hell alone for the things that don't affect anyone but me. Let's focus on the important things and not "legitimate rape" or "zomg teh gays will destroy marriage!" I voted for Obama because I don't trust Romney. There's something shady about him and since I'm not banking like a boss, I don't matter to him. I'm just the poor white girl who can't find a job and needs assistance to get her healthcare. He has a hard-on against people like me and I'm firmly opposed to shoot myself in the foot just to vote based on racial lines.

TL;DR I read your rant and something in my brain popped. And who says negro anymore? Are you magically posting from the 1950s?

Wow. You must be astronomically embarrassed by your actual reason(s) for voting for Romney to actually post something that makes you sound insane.

                              • At first I wasn’t going to say anything and let this thread run it course. Now you have pissed me off with this negro thing and the fact if you are black you automatically vote for Obama because he is black.

You sir are full of shit. First off I am West Indian American which makes me a person of color and proud to be one.

Second, I have been a democrat since i was eligible to vote at the age of 18. That has been about 22 years now.

I did not vote for Obama because he is black i voted for him because of his policies and how he is handling things with our coutnry and abroad.

He is also not trying to tax the crap out of me and my little paychecks that i get each week from working 2 jobs so i can afford my house that i just brought and my car.

Unfortunately because we have some dumbasses in congress who will cut off their noses to spite their face because they do not want to cooperate with a democratic president and pass the bills that will get the country moving again.

I also voted for Clinton, Gore and Kerry and they have all been white.

I guess I could say that you are racist because you only vote for white guys right?

Most people I have talked to voted for Obama because he was the lesser of two evils. As most have said on here the republicans have been batshit crazy as of late. I do not want anyone to tell me what i can and can't do with my own body or tell me who i can and can't marry.

I am done with this discussion. You can wallow in your racist pool of ignorance if you want to, I won't be joining you.

Oh, and please stop calling us negros. I find it very offensive because you sure as hell wouldn't like me to call you an offensive name for a white person.
