Hmm the latest seems to be there are petitions for all 50 states..but for some reason I get the sneaking suspicion that they were started by the same set of people (a very select few), and a lot of the signatures are the same on all the petitions. I mean come on, what are we in kindergarten? Things don't go our way and suddenly we want to take our ball and go home?

((Oh and I know I should not be one to talk..my spelling and grammar is horrid..but it is born and bred...))

What about people born and bred in the south but raised in the North? Who's parents are both 'southerners' (Kentucky and Florida)?

The thought of them being submitted form all 50 states doesn't phase me at all.

California is and probably always will be a "Blue State" but there were still 4.2 million people that voted for Romney. 25,000 people out of 4.2 million is roughly .6 percent of those voters. It's not even enough to be considered a drop in the bucket.

I don't hate any of the "Yankee" states... or yankees, for that matter. I do hate the sneering attitude adopted by some people* towards the South in particular and rural white people in general. However, although they choose to generalize me, I will not in turn generalize them.

*Generally those in urban areas, especially on the East or West Coast, and especially Canadians. I get it, you live in a Socialist Paradise and you have Tim Horton's. But it's pretty nice down here, too.

The awesomeness of Tommy Shaw counteracts Ted Nugent. He's like an anti-idiot shield.

And as a Yank who lives and travels in the south a lot, the worst I've gotten is "your accent is funny." I'm from Baltimore, I know my accent is funny.

            cowboy 1 - Get a rope.

The first time my Dad and I saw this ad, we spontaneously shouted out "Lynch him!", in a horribly bad Texan-ish accent, in perfect unison, before the last line was spoken. Wonderful moment
Were you and I watching the same ad? I recall the ad for Pace picante sauce, where one cowboy said "This picante sauce was made in New Jersey!".

Oh well, one bad (big) apple spoils the barrel.

OK im have been looking for something but.. two links I cant get to at work 1. stated that 80% of the signatures were the same across ALL the petitions and 2. that after the civil war congress enacted a law making it illegal to succeed from the US soo... yeah.. (again stupid work for no backup on this) however, perhaps if the government stated they would allow it under rules such as: 1. We the United States repossess ALL military hardware for protections at all of our bases and armories 2. utility lines will be cut and your new country must produce its own power, water and gas itself or pay to import it 3. Passports required to come and go from your new country. Lets see how well that would go over hmm...

I don't hate Yankees per se...^_^ Just certain ones or certain yankee cities like NYC and Atlanta (WHO DAT!).

wolfie -- the ad has several variants, it was part of a campaign that ran for some time. My anecdote's time frame would have been in the early to mid 2000's.

edit: found it ! - or, at least, the version that still said new jersey rather than NYC (it was later changed)

Not too likely. Obama is trying to gain bipartisanship; he won't give his enemies ammunition by mocking these nut jobs, whose real goal is simply to back Obama into a corner.

He's smarter than they are. They will fail.

Bobby Jindal, the Republican gov of Louisiana, has publicly called for his party to "get rid of the stupid" in the GOP; to abandon the conspiracy theory, sour grapes, simplistic arguments.

However, the stupid runs the GOP right now, and I doubt that saner heads will prevail anytime soon. Romney made an announcement today that essentially says Obama bought the election.

Really now? "Bought the election"? I guess he spent more, but only if that argument can be used for every other winner.

Buying the election - from the sheer amount of money raised for campaigning by both sides, I'd say both sides could be seen as guilty in that regards.

I heard on the radio that Texas is well passed the 25,000 mark their petition request. Can't wait to hear Obama's response.

I concur. I hope the second word is 'off'.

Romney is pretty much from Massachusetts (sorry when he told the main industry of his home state to go fuck itself, he lost all claim to being from Michigan) which probably means he's a Red Sox fan which means he probably has their same thought process when it comes to certain other teams that normally best them.....not mentioning any names though....But there used to be a ship named after the current owner's grandpa.....
