    I love this quote..

Yes, our brain rewards us for being closed-minded dicks.
    Says it all - yes??

Nice article to find BK... now, if only the rest of the world would see and understand.

(I mean, I read a couple of the comments at the bottom and thought to myself - glad I'm not over there atm. It's got nothing to do with sides, it just happened to be about humans)

and sadly even though it is documented and well written, most will just look at the source(humor site) and dismiss it totally. I mean a humor site actually being timely and relevant and to be taken seriously-never!!!!

I'll dismiss it for giving a giant, unnecessary middle finger to women.

You mean the "titties" comments and pics?

*shrug* I dunno. Showing breasts in advertisments of all sorts does seem to work. Sex sells. Many men and women alike like seeing boobs.

            This is so very true.

I don't know about that article. I mean, they use the same stuff they talk about in their own article. I mean, it's OBVIOUS the politicians are using it against us. Maybe they really are just using regular speech for their speeches.

I saw all the "titties!" comments as mocking the people who put breasts all over everything. Sort of like The Onion, where they act out the other viewpoint exaggerated, so that you can fully see how odd it is. Just saying "sex sells" is trite, but plastering half-nude women everywhere makes the point loudly and clearly.

Which is why this thread has turned into a discussion on 'titties', rather than the other important 6 points....

Sorta says it all, in a way.

"Way back when humans started forming groups and tribes, social status was everything. It's what guaranteed you food, protection and ladies (that is, a chance to pass on your genes)."

"Now, as bad as this one is, and you could make the case that 80% of the stupid choices humans make is because of this, there's one even more powerful. It's a spin-off of this one, and it's by far the best way to get thinking humans to respond like trained dogs."

                  Apparently human = male.

Reminds me of stories where the 'tribe' was massacred, leaving only the women and children....

yes, I agree with where you're going with that, Anriana, but it still ignores the pshychological points... and by turning on that bit alone does exactly what the article is about - how to avoid intelligent discussion by taking attention away from more significant aspects.

Aversion is just as great a tool as any of the others.

(although, as I think about this, that'd have to be another one of the techniques... subtlely grouping people...a 'subconscious' way of saying that women's opinions don't really count...)

you missed the qualifier of Way back when-yes at that time women were not considered-heck we didn't get the right to vote until around 1920(not looking up exact date as I'm tired), and social status is still(sadly) very important to humans-especially women.

I get called a "filthy hippie" quite a bit-you want to know why? Because I don't shave my legs-that's the only reason-and I'm usually being called that by women wearing a ton of makeup, carrying louis vutton purses, and have perfectly manicured nails and go to a salon once a week. It was not considered "common" or normal for women to shave their legs until the nylon/silk rations during WWII. Now because women have conformed to this self-imposed standard, anyone who goes against it must be "uncivilized". The irony of that is it was born out of, war the most uncivilized thing anyone can do.

Not quite. The whole leg shaving campaign began as just another avenue of marketing for cosmetic companies. They started on armpit hair in the 1910-20's when sleeveless dresses started showing up. After successfully wiping that out, they moved on to leg hair.

But you're right it didn't catch on till the 40's. Hemlines came up in the 20's then back down in the 30's so leg shaving wasn't that common until it started going back up in 40's and the pin up models started to hit with their Epic Legs(tm). The sales pitch became a lot easier then.

On a side note, nylon was rationed because it was needed to make parachutes and silk because it was needed to make parachutes *and* unfortunately most of it was normally imported from Japan.

The Internet teaches me things. Whether I want it too or not. Thus I must pass these savings on to you.

Yes, and women would 'dye' their legs with tea, bullion cubes, dirty water, and commercial 'leg makeup', then draw the 'seam' up the back of the leg with eyeliner. I did research for a WWII play this summer, and there's a scene where the women "paint" their legs.
