It sucks that he pulled it because people were infringing the copyright (fun fact: if it's not being sold, it's not piracy no matter how many talking heads, lawyers, and politicos try to claim it is). However, I'm honestly surprised that he was so unaware of how modern media actually works in the real world.
I do have to ask: the show was obviously completed. Are they just going to fold up and "take their ball and go home" rather than finalize a full-scale release?
I believe it's been mentioned in this thread that a large part of the problem with this type of copyright infringement is a service issue, or rather, a lack of service issue.
While I understand the early release to Kickstarter backers, the fact that it was "in the wild" with no provision for anybody else to get a copy through legitimate channels, this situation was almost a self-fulfilling prophecy.
That doesn't make it right, merely inevitable.
