I definitely agree that a lot has to do with the fine print. At the same time though, a lot also had to do with Obama and friends getting their pockets lined by the lobbyists for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae.

The administration not only identified the problem, it also recommended a solution. In June 2004, then-Deputy Treasury Secretary Samuel Bodman said: "We do not have a world-class system of supervision of the housing government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs), even though the importance of the housing financial system that the GSEs serve demands the best in supervision."
Listen, if someone were to present to me a problem that could crash the economic system of the United States, and severly impair the economic system of the rest of the world, I would work with the fine print and try to make something work.

Of course, if I were an unethical person who was getting a bunch of money from these companies that were going to go through new regulations, I would probably reject anything in their favor and kill it before it goes to the floor.

I won't place the blame squarely on the Democrats; but, I'd say it's like 95% Democrats fault.
Crooked banks around the world would gladly give a loan today so if you ever miss a payment they can take your home away.
