  • Another Gun Incident in Florida

A man with a Concealed Carry permit spotted an unarmed shoplifter and decided to fire his gun at him to "mark his car" for police. Reports are that he fired at least 5 rounds at the shoplifter's car. From the articles, it appears he shot from point blank range and even hit other cars.

After reviewing store security video, police said Martinez's story doesn't add up. They believe he was never in danger because the shoplifter was driving away from him and everyone else.
His act of vigilantism landed him with 2 felony charges. Even if they don't stick, he deserves to lose his CCW

It's people like this, and others who abuse their 2nd amendment right that are making it easier and easier for the government to slowly erode that right from us.

This sort of thing is bound to happen now and then, but I'm amazed it was in Florida. They're usually so level-headed down there.

Please tell me that was sarcasm?

I'm glad to read that the shooter was arrested and charged; this is a textbook example for unreasonable and completely inappropriate use of force. Civillians shooting after a fleeing criminal is not acceptable, and it's good to see the police cracking down on this.

Even cops don't tend to shoot at fleeing suspects/criminals.

I'm glad this jerk was arrested. He broke the law and needs to be in jail regardless if he has a carry permit or not.
With him having done this though the anti's and bedwetters will paint everyone else with the same brush.

Hitting other cars when shooting at point blank range? I thought demonstrating some degree of competence in weapon handling was a requirement for a CCP. Also, if he was at point blank range, he should have been able to note the make, model colour, and license plate number of the car. That should identify it pretty well for the police, WITHOUT posing a danger to innocents in the area.

Marking his car for the police... oh if only there way some way cars could be marked to make them distinctive from other cars... and if only every single car had such a designator on them... perhaps have it be mandated by the state to have one on your vehicle... oh if only such a thing existed

But, but that means that it's something that's under the control of the guberment! It's un'merican!

Don't you see? He was making it easy to track with a means that isn't under control of the ebil guberment so the ebil guberment police could follow it.

Me thinks he just wanted to be a hero and try to "prove" that guns are awesome and everyone should have one.

He wanted the paper headline to read, "Heroic Gunman cleverly uses his firearm to assist the police in apprehension of criminal!" (Only probably shorter and more snappy.)

What he failed to realized is everyone with two braincells to rub together (on both sides of the debate) are going to see what he did and respond "WTF WERE YOU THINKING!?"

It's just REAL lucky that no one was hurt or shot by a stray bullet.

"But officers! I was trying to HELP YOU! How was I supposed to know that little Timmy would take the bullet to the head!"

Guns are effing dangerous. There's really no debate on that. People who would use them so willy-nilly without a second thought really should not be allowed to carry them at all.

Well it is Florida. Finding that sort of person is no easy task.
