Thing is, in the UK we never had the right to carry a weapon, in fact there are several laws that prevent us from doing exactly that (firearms legislation as well).

That would be the biggest problem if they tried to take guns away from people here...Disarming Texas would most likely end up with Mexico getting a new chunk of land

No, I think it would result in Texas becoming their own country yet again. They may even get New Mexico and Arizona to join them too. It would go under the name of the Texas Union. Could be neat, but then I'd need a new passport.

Are you saying that Texas would actually attempt to secede if strict federal gun control laws were enacted?

Would be interesting. I'd be mostly interested in what the polls said before the event and how many people went along with it. Somewhat tangential, since Bush, the current premier, is from Texas, if they seceded from the union would that invalidate his presidency?

Oh, let TX secede I'm actually for New England seceding as well (jest, jest)

Personally, I don't like guns (I prefer swords and bows) but I have shot a rifle, and it was fun. My father had rifles growing up (I didn't shoot those, I shot at a camp) and i never felt in danger when I saw them. Then again. we lived out in the boonies.
If you can be a safe, smart gun owner, you should be able to own a gun...

sorta a sidetract, I rememerb about 10 years ago I was dating this guy from te Netherlands, and we went shopping in Wally World for hiking gear....so we walked by the guns...he was in awe at seeing "so many guns" I think there all of 7 rifles hung up....was interesting

Gun control doesn't mean you're not allowed to go hunting, or to a camp to shoot a gun.

Just means it's regulated. If you shoot at a gun range, the gun will stay at the range unless you go on competitions
if you're a hunter, then the hunting permit process will likely vet you for owning a shotgun or a rifle. And then you'll only be allowed to own one after a while.

Anyone in Texas that's in favor in giving up their guns and relying on the government for protection obviously hasn't heard of the orgy of violence and murder right on their own south border. Gangs of drug gangs cutting people's heads off, gunning down children, setting people on fire. Since 9/11 I don't plan on relying on the government to guarantee me and my family's safety and security. There's no way in hell you can stop this kind of trash from spilling over the border. I personally think and armed Texas can serve as a good buffer against this when the violence does begin spilling over.

I'd love to see some citation and stats regarding these scare tactics.

Raps, part of that made it to our news over here. Bodies with multiple gunshot wounds, apparently drug/gang related...

                      Of course, that's anecdotal
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

Yeah and there's no way in hell a major terrorist attack could ever happen HERE in the United States, or so I heard many times before 9/11. Of course, seven years later, more and more people are now saying it'll never happen again.

BTW Here's your news links to what I'm talking about in Mexico....

----The violence is so bad over there Mexico's own military can't even put a stop to it.

So, where are the independent links? Those are tales designed to touch the heart strings. They mention names.

What are the actual rates of gun crime, how does it compare to gun crime elsewhere, what are the relevant laws involved, and how does it prove that the UK's gun control laws have failed?

Well they're news reports. What kind of reports do you want??? If you think I should travel to Juarez and troll for government reports I'd rather not.

Pretty much everyone else hits up Google to find some sort of comparative study. It would be interesting if you could do that and also answer the question of why this is relevant to British gun control law.
