  • Brain go ow-politician mixes religion with countries...

    http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/news/s...-1226693452708

So a politician down here for a very stupid microparty (one nation) wound up in trouble for placing anti-Muslim labels on certain goods in the supermarket. (for the record, there is no ruling about freedom of speech in the aussie constitution-there's IMPLIED freedom of speech, but also she's more likely to be facing vandalism charges, hence the criminal charges)

However, when she was interviewed, she showed just how stupid she was by labelling Islam as a country and believing that the Jews followed Jesus. O.o

Luckily she's not running in my electoral district*. Otherwise I'd be curling up in a ball whimpering.

*-closest equivalent for the US is the congressional districts.

And then she claims "they" made her look like a criminal and a moron. I'm not sure who this "they" is who's supposed to have forced her to alter others' property or to say incredibly ignorant things.

Those would be the voices in her head... >_>

Now THAT does not surprise me.

During the late 90's, the leader of said party was very well known for going "Please explain" when asked about whether or not she was xenophobic.

I should add that Australia is in the middle of an election at the moment. Apart from the usual mud-slinging between each party (the ad campaigns are just the usual "this is why you shouldn't vote for <party>"), there's more focus on the minor parties this time since the last election resulted in a minority government (that is, neither party won enough seats and there were three independents who claimed said seats. They could choose whether to align themselves with the two major parties-2 of them chose Labor).

I'm lucky, I do believe the candidates for my district are pretty much Liberal, Labor, Greens (environmental/libertarian, usually aligned with Labor however) and an Independent candidate. As far as I'm aware, family first are NOT contesting this election (please!)

Oh, you know 'they', the 'other guy I talked to on the phone'. You know those mysterious faceless nameless people who sucky customers seem to quote so often.

I'm sure there'll be more, I suddenly had Xenophon posters go up in the area yesterday, they look like they've been put up by over enthusiastic children with the amount of stickytape they used.
I am a sexy shoeless god of war!
Minus the sexy and I'm wearing shoes.

I was referring to House of Reps, not the Senate My vote for the senate is already going straight to the sex party.

And yes, that's an actual Senate Party. Other parties in the list include the Shooters and Fishers party, the Coke for Bubblers party, the What Women Want Party, the Non-Custodial Parents Party and the usual Socialist Alliance (of which there are about 3-4 different PARTIES. Each party requires 500 members MINIMUM)

Of those, the Sex Party's policies are roughly as follows:

              -pro gay marriage.
              -blanket federal laws around abortion.
-anti-censorship to a point, they want the classification system reviewed and overhauled, with non-violent sexual content being given its own rating (that is, BDSM is rated differently to rape porn)
-very much FOR legalisation of all illicit drugs (apart from marijuana, they want this to extend to ALL illicit drugs. This is the only policy I disagree with-marijuana I have no problem with for medicinal purposes and ONLY for that)
-secular education system* and very comprehensive sex ed program for all schools (both public/private)

*-at the current moment, the churches influence in various public schools is generally opt-out. SA seems to be fairly "light" on that aspect, with the only influence coming from school "Chaplains" (who act more like a bridge between school and church: they'll support students to the best of their abilities in various ways) and in primary school, annual Christmas/Easter visits. Both of those are opt-out. Other states have introduced once-a-week classes which are taken by local church networks and have been known for spreading fundamentalist crap. Students who opt out in those states are generally treated like crap during that time. If I wind up in that situation, I plan on being the sole teacher who actually helps those students during that time with homework.
