  • Thank you, Mr. Rod Blagojevich.

Here come the rants. If that bothers you, best to back away now.

    Dear Likely-Soon-To-Be Ex-Governor Blagojevich,

FUCK YOU SIDEWAYS WITH A RUSTY CHEESE GRATER. You stupid, stupid, STUPID son of a bitch. With all the shit being flung your way, one would think that you wouldn't possibly have the balls to attempt to sell off President-Elect Obama's Senate seat to the highest bidder when your ass is in enough trouble as it is. But you did. I can't believe you fucking just did. Way to go, dumbfuck. You just ensured that Illinois will be stuck with a Republican governor for the next fucking century.

You see, I'm quite pissed at you not only because you have just helped give the fundie fucktards fresh ammo for their whole "eewww Teh EVIL LIBERALS!!" racket, but also because I (and women like me) have something of a personal stake in this. Know that lovely little law that you signed into existence that protects birth control sales in pharmacies here in the state from scumbag fundie dickweeds (aka more Republicans**) shoving their bullshit version of 'morality' down everyone's throat and trying to deny those sales to customers? The fundies are still pissed over it, but now I guess we can kiss that law goodbye for sure when said future Republican governor comes along, can't we?

Thanks for screwing us over, you bastard. I hope they shove you in George Ryan's cell and he's developed some workout muscles and a severe taste for Teh Buttsecks.

    Hatefully yours,

    AH

(** = Yes, I am aware that not all Republicans are Satan Incarnate and oppose birth control, but a damned awful lot of them are, and they vote for the kind of bastards that do, and dollars to donuts that's exactly the kind of governor we'll wind up with. If ever you wondered why I will NEVER AGAIN in my lifetime vote for any Republican, there you go.)

Nah, Illinois will have a Democrat Governor for a long while to come. Chicagoland is still part of Illinois. While there have been Republican Governors, it would take a lot to get another one. There's still plenty of corruption in Illinois politics.

But, I'm glad Blagojevich has been arrested. He won't be able to fuck Illinois up anymore.

Not only that, but all the far right pundits (Oh, Mr. O'Reilly, you're on) are going to use this to attack our new President who had absolutely nothing to do with it. It's sad, really.

I dunno. Lots of people were super-pissed at Blago even before this crap broke; the stormgates are gonna be wide-open now. Last Republican gov. we had was Ryan, and his scandal - bribes for licenses - kinda pales in comparison with an open auction for Obama's Senate seat.

It's not that I couldn't live with a Republican gov. at all, it's that the Republican party *in general* is just so incredibly fucked up with dominionists and fundie misogynist nuts that I wouldn't trust a sneeze coming from any of them not to give me the black plague, and it kills me that even moderate conservatives tend to vote for these kinds when it's clear that it's not in their best interest either.

But, I'm glad Blagojevich has been arrested. He won't be able to fuck Illinois up anymore.
Now, if we could just get Durbin to STFU about commuting Ryan's sentence...In a twisted sort of way I can see why he's trying for a pardon, but dude, it's still an incredibly bad idea. *facepalm*

Oh, and Bill O'Lie-ly needs to go DIAF. Preferably after first being sodomized by rabid cows.

I've been doing the happy dance since I got the news at work that he was arrested. I've long thought that he should be arrested.

*Sigh* Yes, we're probably going to get another one of Chicago's pet politicians who doesn't look beyond the city limits for the states needs, and we're gonna get screwed over. again. But, Blago is gone. How this man thought that he had ANY career in politics after his terms as gov is beyond me.

Is it really that surprising that he was trying to sell Obama's seat? This is the same man who wouldn't work with the House and Senate to develop a workable budget. Who whined and pouted like a spoiled child when forced to make a decision, who then promptly cut the budget to a lot of orginizations, parks, and services that many people in Illinois really need. All of these cuts took place in areas that are represented by people who argued with him, and made him mad. He also kept trying to pass laws favoring the special intrest group of the month in hopes of distracting people from what he was doing. Who has never stopped campaigning, and has never really started to BE a gov.

It'll never happen, but I for one would LOVE to see Gary Dahl or Correen Gordon get the gov's spot. Neither one is a saint, but they both try to help the state, and let's face it; neither one could be worse than Blago or Ryan. There's not too much left to top those two nimrods.

Like Jack Thompson's anti-game bill that failed a legal challenge and caused more of taxpayers go to not only pay for his legal fees, but the ESAs as well. Oh, and this money has apparently been collected, but not paid yet.

Pretty much. I forgot the part that even though Illinois is just this side of bankruptcy, our lovely gov was too good to live in Springfield in the gov's mansion. (sp?) Nope, not him, he had to live in Chicago, and fly to Springfield every day that he went to work. Which we got to foot the bill for. He also looked at businesses as tax cows that could be milked forever. He kept raising taxes to the point that very few businesses will come here. Which just makes the employment situation even worse.

I also enjoyed his (somewhat) idle threats of:

                - threatening to lay off 90% of the ISP.
                - closing most of the parks and historic sites
                - closing Pontiac Correctional
                - moving the IDOT Safety building (which might not happen now, hopefully)

and something else unless he got his way.

Along with wanting to use his influence to fire opinion writers of the Tribune because he didn't like what they wrote (um....censorship anyone?).

I'm glad this piece of shit is gone. The Democrats are fucked up in this state, the Republicans are too. Damn, in the next general election there might be a third party candidate elected.

Kerr, Walker, Ryan, Blagojevich....what a fucking trend.

Damn...and I thought we in Pennsylvania had it bad Seriously though, Pittsburgh has been run by Democrats since the 1930s, and they've managed to fuck it up. (Before anyone thinks I'm slamming that party...I should mention this. You get *any* party (Democrat, Republican, Communist, et al) in charge too long, and they become too deeply entrenched to bring about change.)

We're going through a similar situation here. For the last several years, our local government has seen businesses as their cash cow. Instead of fixing the problems downtown (and getting rid of inept employees), they jack up taxes to cover the shortfalls. Eventually, the tax rise drives jobs and residents out...and they can't figure out why

In fact, my employer said "fuck you" to the city when they tried to implement a "commuter tax." That is, they were going to tax people who worked inside the city limits, but didn't live there. Needless to say, taxation without representation soon became a war call. (Didn't someone say that way back in 1776 or so?) I don't remember if it passed, mainly because I quit following it when my company moved out to the 'burbs in 2004.

I've actually thought of him as a real asshole when I heard about how anti-gun he was, and seeing how he carries himself in an arrogant manner. But, the people of Illinois voted for him.

I actually have thought of Chicago being the de facto capital of Illinois, with their own army of corrupt politicians running the state. Assholevich is just merely a puppet of that failed city-state.

Hon, I hate to tell you this, but, WE didn't vote for him. CHICAGO did. I personally don't know anyone who voted for him the FIRST time, let alone the second. See, we have a real problem when it comes to voting in this state. All of the downstate area will totally detest a person, vote for anyone else, and between various nasty ploys/tatics/illegalities whoever the Machine likes, gets elected. (Apoligies to anyone who actually lives in Chicago and didn't vote for that nimrod). Personally I'd love for Chi-town to be able to vote for their own gov, while the rest of us get to vote for ours. Give the gov of Chi-town 1/4 of the states budget, and let 'em go their own way. Of course the budget cut would absolutly kill them, but.... then the rest of the state might get some needed things. Just little things, like road and bridge repairs, more than 1 ranger for 3 friggen state parks, money for schools, just little things.

I voted for him the first time, and would have the second, if I hadn't been living out of state (and therefore not been a registered voter for IL) at the time. You may now commence with the flaming.

Seriously though, I did vote for him for specific reasons. First time, it was because he came off as a halfway decent candidate (obviously I was wrong on that guesstimate). I would have supported him the second round because he had signed into law that all IL pharmacies *must* fill the prescriptions they are presented with, or else refer the customer to a place that will - they aren't allowed to pull this "oh my pwecious religion says I'm not supposed to give you your LEGAL birth control" bullshit. (This came about because of the current trend nationwide of trying to deny BC access based on the religion card, and because some idiot at a Walgreen's in the Chicago 'burbs did attempt this very thing.)

Unfortunately, because too many Republicans are so hyped up on the so-called "pro-life" thing, they tend to support candidates who will allow this kind of crap, which is one of many reasons why I will NEVER again vote for any Republican in my lifetime - it's either Democrat or independent/green for me. Say what one will about the Dems in general, but at least they have the common sense to recognize that BC is nobody's beeswax but the person who's taking it.

Bad Amethyst, bad bad. Bad poster, no cookie. Unfortunatly, I think that in this state, the only way we are going to have a decent gov is if someone runs who is not connected to Chicago. And that will happen when Satan's wearing ice skates. Like I said last post, downstate will vote for whoever they want, the Chi-town political machine will elect whoever they bloody well like. And in Illinois, except in really rare instances, everybody in politics is connected to Chicago.

Too late - already snitched a couple from the batch my mom just made today. (Oatmeal chocolate-chip walnut - nummies!)

That's how Obama wiped the floor in Illinois. If everything east of I-39 and north of I-80 was its own territory/independent state, Illinois would have still gone to Obama, but it would have been a LOT closer (34 counties went to Obama out of what would be left, 57 would have gone to McCain - but the populations would have swung it).

Also, looking at the 2006 Gubernatorial Election for Illinois, Blagojevich (outside of Chicago) won the Quad Cities, Metro East St. Louis, and a handful of counties in southern Illinois (Carbondale-Marion-Murphysboro-Harrisburg area) and some counties that have less population than some towns around here. So, without Chicagoland, Judy Baar-Topinka would have been Governor (that would have been worse - Whitney would have been a good governor IMO).
