  • Bush gets shoe thrown at him in Iraq

If you live in a cave and haven't heard about or seen this yet, go watch the video on Youtube.

Here's a link to an article:

    http://www.agi.it/world/news/2008121...n0033-art.html

    The last line reads:

Now Zaidi risks a minimum of two years in prison for insulting a visiting Head of State; but the sentence could be up to 15 years if he were to be found guilty of attempted homicide.
Attempted homicide? How could tossing a loafer at someone kill them? Either Bush's head is made of delicate china, or they are mistaking Mr. Zaidi for that shoe assassin in the first Austin Powers movie.

    The man has no sole!!!!!

    (sorry...not )

Anyway, I'd say the 15 years bit is just media beat-up. Hopefully, sense will come out of this, and they'll let him off with a little chat, IMHO.

    I can't wait for Lace's reply.....
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

The media loves to tell what is at the edge of technically possible. I've seen it all the time when talking about animals abuse when in actuality they rarely get more than a slap on the wrist or a fine.

I just can't believe that he telegraphed it so bad that Bush dodged it. I mean, this is a man who couldn't see 9-11 happening despite the information right in his face? How did he manage to dodge the shoe?!

As someone from the Huffington Post message board so deftly put it:

"Bush finally found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq: size 10 loafers!"

lordlundar: He dodged the shoe because looking out for his own skin is the "sole" area at which he excels
          Customer: I need an Apache.
Gravekeeper: The Tribe or the Gunship?

I think the most ironic thing about it is that it took 8 years for someone to throw something at him like this.

No, but it is pretty empty up in there (cocaine and boozin' rots away brain cells, y'know) so damage to soft tissue could have been permanent.

God bless you, Mr. Zaidi. You are a freakin' HERO.

In looking at the video...I thought it was two shoes.

Seems to me as if the reporter just snapped, took of one of his shoes, hucked it, and then did the same with the other shoe.

Not sure what Bush may have said that triggered that reaction, but I definitely saw two shoes.

                Dude was PISSED.

According to reports, Mr. Zaidi had actually been planning this for months. He hates the US.

There was no love lost between him and Saddam, either. His family had been arrested and detained under the old regime.

I think this guy just wants everyone to leave him and his country alone.

Despite how anyone feels about Bush, you have to admit that the sight of him basically doing the Dragonball Z standing-still dodge to avoid those shoes was funny as hell. I just wish he had managed to catch the second shoe the way he tried to because that would have put it over the line from giggle-inducing to friggin' hysterical. Imagine the Jedi mind-trick videos that coulda been made.

No political commentary from me, I'm just amused at how fast the man actually is for his age. All that working out pays off

Here's a wiki link about the guy that threw the shoes.

                      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraqi_shoe_hurler

I find this whole situation simulataneously amusing and sad. And I'm having a very hard time putting into words exactly what I'm thinking...

Shoe throwing in the Islamic culture is an ULTIMATE insult.

What I find the most horrific is that Bush said that he couldn't unerstand why anyone would be unhappy with him.

The audacity and willfull ignorance to say that makes me loathe the mass murderer all the more.

Ok, so I learned something new today.

After reading the Wikipedia article, I tend to agree with the station he works for. Releasing him is the only "free democracy" response, IMHO.

While here in the U.S. the shoe throwing would be considered assault, the fact that it's suck a HUGE insult over there makes it more of a statement of extreme displeasure, rather than an actual "attack" (again, IMHO).

In a "Free Democracy", aren't you supposed to be allowed to protest or voice your displeasure with the government without the fear of being imprisoned, let alone beaten to the point of leaving a blood trail?

While Bush is one of my least favorite people on the planet--heck, possibly the universe--I do like that he tried to downplay it in post interviews. Personally, I'd have been hugely annoyed to have a shoe thrown at me, let alone two, and I'd be hard pressed to "take it in stride" as he seems to be doing.

I hope the shoe-thrower is released soon.
