  • Lying Congressmen - Now In Democrat Flavor

So, Katherine Clark one the Democratic primary which, being that this is Massachusetts's 5th district, pretty much means that all she has to do is not shit herself in public and she'll be elected. Now, I ought to be fairly pleased, as she shows all the signs of being a capable politician.

Instead, I am pissed off about this. Throughout the primary, she has been basically running on the platform of "Elizabeth Warren thinks I should win." She hasn't explicitly SAID Elizabeth Warren has endorsed her. Instead, all her mailers and door-hangers have pictured her with warren, and talked about how she and Elizabeth Warren will be a great team to fight for Massachusetts in Washington. EMILY's List, in campaigning on behalf of Clark, has also issued Clark/Warren images. I've known several people who said they only voted for Clark on the Warren connection.

The problem is, Warren didn't endorse her. Warren didn't endorse ANYONE. And pretty much everyone I know who voted in the election voted her on the grounds of her being endorsed by someone who didn't endorse her.

You can see why I'm pissed off, aye?

    A lying politician.

    Huh.

    There's a surprise.
“There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea's asleep and the rivers dream, people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do.” - Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor.

I think Democrats were feeling left behind with all Tea Party types. They haven't had a really good liar since Weiner, while the Tea Party has Cruz, Bachmann, hell, it's just not fair.

As long as they don't try to catch up in the batshit crazy department...I'm fine with that.

And you forgot Issa, there's another piece of work.

So, there's no room for distinction between "X and I would make a great team" and "X endorses my campaign?" Jumping on someone's coattails is a lie even if you don't tell a lie to do it?

There's a distinction between "We would make a great team" and having someone pretty much dominate your mailers, hangers and leaflets.

Almost everyone I know who voted in that election, most of whom are fairly savvy about such things, was under the impression that she had been endorsed by Warren. There was no outright lying, but when a fairly large number of people think that you are, and you put someone else at the forefront of your campaign, then saying "Well I didn't actually say I was ENDORSED, I just included a lot of quotes from her about some issues I find important and have a photoshopped image of us standing next to each-other" is really a lie of omission.
