Short story: Guy's wife takes a trip to her native country, Brazil, and takes their son with her. As soon as she gets there, she calls the father and tells him that she's staying there and keeping the kid. Dad has been fighting it and Brazil has the balls to say that the kid should stay there (Can you tell what my opinion is yet). Mother dies giving birth to kids half-brother. Father STILL can't get kid back. This was in 2004. US Government is now getting involved (Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, is handling it).
Honestly, I don't see how this is possible. It's kidnapping, pure and simple. Both America AND Brazil both have laws against EXACTLY what has happened. As a signer of the Hague Treaties, Brazil should be following international law and should hand the kid over. The Hague is definitely going to have to step in. This is utterly ridiculous in my opinion.
