I disagree. To paraphrase Hans Gruber, he is an [I]exceptional /I] street whore. After all, not many street whores can command the media spotlight for decades, build empires (even if they crumble), and have the ear of movers and shakers the way Donald the Whore does.

The fact that he's currently leading in the polls with Republicans says a lot about the Republican base, or more precisely, how far the fringe element whack jobs have effectively taken over much of that base. It also says a lot about the rest of the Republican field. Most of whom are either whack jobs like Don, religious extremists, or just plain dull. Compared to them, Don is a lightning rod, so it's not all that surprising that he's this popular this early. But there's still a long campaign to go.

It's worth noting that his primary specialty is in real estate, and he's not a failure at that; he actually knows what hes doing in the buying and selling of same. His management, however, kind of sucks, but apparently Donald, his son, is vastly more capable at that than he.

His other businesses seem to be either grand ventures he has no idea how to manage, or places to suck out some profit before letting them crash and burn for the tax write offs.

I think his latest stunt confirms that he's either a complete idiot or the biggest attention whore money can buy. I'm no fan of McCain after 2008, but insulting him for being captured is beyond low.

He basically said being captured doesn't automatically make McCain a hero and it doesn't. I don't know the circumstances of his capture but I get the point he was trying to make.

This is drastically blown out of proportion.

It sounds a lot more like he is saying he isn't a war hero because he was captured. He explicitly says, "I like people who weren't captured" which I interpret to mean that, had McCain not been captured, then maybe he'd consider his hero status. As if being captured on duty makes a soldier somehow a failure, which is a pretty shitty thing to say.

That's a spit in the face to anyone who became a POW while serving in the military. You choose to serve with the full knowledge that you may become captured and/or killed. That's what makes you a hero, regardless of what actually happens.

And then he backpedals in the most pathetic manner, denying he ever said McCain wasn't a war hero, even though he did. In plain English.

Exactly. Even if we take out the implications, directly saying he likes people who weren't captured is a dick thing to say.

True. It's just funny to me that THIS is what is turning some people off about Trump and not all his other insaneness.

Well, there's a big difference between this and his previous "insaneness." Which other of his previous statements is opposite what you'd expect of a Republican primary candidate? Not the immigrants-are-drug-dealing-rapists thing; that's just further along the same road as standard R talking points. But dissing prisoners of war? Especially of THAT war, for which many on that side politically still have POW-MIA flags and bumper stickers?

I'm late to the Donald's A Dick party, I know, but I saw the article this morning about his words about McCain. My grandfather was a WWII POW, and you know what? He's one of my greatest heroes even though I never really got to know hm, because he passed on before I was born. Rule number one, when running for any sort of political office, especially President: Don't insult the military. Trump just kissed his campaign's ass goodbye! Good fucking riddance!

Trump found a way to alienate both Liberals and Conservatives alike.

which, to be fair, IS quite an achievement.

And today he just publicly gave out Lindsey Graham's personal cell phone number.

After Graham publicly called him a jackass.

So basically we have two children in a pissing match running for president?

Yes, but I'd say Trump's move is a bit more egregious than Graham's affirmation of what a lot of us are thinking. Plus, Trump kinda proved Graham right.
