Dragonball is great. The first few seasons of Dragonball Z are decent, but it goes downhill rapidly thanks to executive meddling. (See: Freeza saga, 23 episodes (one entire season) for ~15 minutes of in-world time)

I haven't seen much Technoman/Teknoman/Tekkaman, but it seems pretty formulaic along the same lines as other Sentai shows.

Pokemon (original Japanese unedited) is hilarious. American-edited Pokemon somewhat less so, but still worth watching if you enjoy it. =^_^=

I use to like Naruto way back when it was first airing. It was silly, but character driven and the action scenes were good. But keeping it on the air when it didn't have a story to tell has killed it really and the animation quality dropped like a rock alongside of that.

Also, I've hated Sasuke from the moment he was introduced and will continue to hate him until he dies a terrible death in the manga. Idiotic, insipid, asshole of a character. Very well written if the goal was to make him hatable, but it doesn't seem like that was the case. -.-

I'll happily join you in the "death to Sasuke" camp. >_<

Also, the lack of plot is what happens when a manga gets turned into an anime while it's still being written. The show goes faster than the books, so they have to either add a crap-ton of filler or start writing the story themselves, which also happens and can make for some strange differences between mediums.

and this is the very reason why there are 2 different versions of Full Metal Alchemist. ONe off in VERY different direction (except the first 8 or so episodes) and the "remake" closely following the manga storyline (much better IMO as everything made sense).
I'm lost without a paddle and I'm headed up sh*t creek.

I got one foot on a banana peel and the other in the Twilight Zone.

I saw that two of them were on Netflix but I wasn't sure which one to watch or what the difference was. Brotherhood is the second one?

As for my own personal anime picks, I love Clannad and Trigun, depending on whether I feel like crying my eyes out or laughing my ass off. I just started watching Mushi-shi and it's...surreal. Like, don't watch when in any sort of altered state or bad, bad things will happen to your head.

That sounds a lot like FLCL.

I tried watching FLCL once. I didn't get very far, lol. I know it's not supposed to make sense and it was made by the makers of End of Evangelion in a bid to save their sanity. I think they went too far the other way on that one.

Sasuke's entire existence is to appeal to the same demographic as those who idolize Sephiroth - the emo tweens and post-tweens.

Mushi-shi is actually nothing at all like FLCL. I also wouldn'r say it's trippy or particularly weird; it just focuses on a unique supernatural subject. It's really a series of stories linked by the main character and the mushi, much like Kino's Journey. Nothing that happens in Mushi-shi is earthshaking or will change the world; they're all very personal stories, which I like.

It also has some of the most lush, beautiful background art I have ever see (by Studio Artland).

Brotherhood is the second one and more closely follows the manga (very closely) and is, in my opinion, the MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better one. So if you were trying to figure out which one to watch, watch Brotherhood.

I don't idolize Sephiroth, but he is one of my all time favorite bad guys. Especially ever since they expanded his story out in FF7: Crisis Core and put him into Dissidia. He's an amazing character if you actually take the time to learn about him and don't just shoo him off as "Uber strong, angsty, pretty boy" because he actually doesn't have all that much angst.

Not much angst, but he did go straight to completely insane.

Sepphy is an awesome bad guy. I just love the build up they did with him in FFVII. You have to get that chocobo to get past the Midgar Zolom and then you find out Sephiroth impaled the beast. With a tree. Don't tell me you didn't go "Oh, #$&*!" the first time you played Kingdom Hearts and he showed up as a bonus boss. And then proceeded to wipe the floor with you. While you were grinning the whole time.

Very true, but it's a rare type of show: An action themed show that you don't watch for the action. Most (if not all) of the real story and development occurs outside the fights. Tekkaman Blade II integrates it a little more but it's still largely separated.

When I came across the scene with the Midgard Zolom I actually whimpered...and then save my game excessively.

In kingdom hearts I had re ran so many world I almost have him a run for his money and was quite vocal to the point where Mom would whack me with a pillow.

Anime I just found that I love is Kamisama Kiss. Very well done in my view.

I kinda lost touch with Anime when I went to an Anime con and noticed something in the comedy room's schedule: one super-hyper comedy after another. (a-la Azumanga Daioh)

I then went into the sci-fi room: one giant robot series after another. (a-la Evangelion)

I then went to the action room: one hyper-martial-arts series after another. (a-la Dragonball series)

It's like everything was starting to fall into 3 catch-all lowest-common-denominator formulas. Occasionally you get a masterpiece like Paprika, and Studio Ghibli seems to avoid the tropes, but ever since anime started getting a larger worldwide audience, it's fallen into the same trap everything else falls into when it's popular: loads and loads of crap billed as if it's not.

The last anime series I collected in its entirity was Chobits.

I'm just sick of everything trying to be the next Azumanga, or the next Evangelion, or the next DBZ, taking only what made those series 'noticable', and leaving behind what made them GOOD.

Unfortunately, I've been out of the loop for about 8 years. If the pendulum's been swinging back the other way since then, please let me know.
