I do this fairly regularly, actually. Once I was even the only person in the theatre for the entire film.

It has its advantages. You can sit where you want. You can make sure you get there at the right time. Get the snacks you want.

The only downside I've found so far is there's nobody to hold your popcorn when you visit the toilets.

I have friends I could call to go see a movie, or I could take my husband.... but I almost always go alone.

I can see what I want, when I want, on a whim, put the popcorn on my lap and not share, and walk out halfway through if I'm bored. Going to the movies is the ultimate solo activity.

For me, it really depends on the movie. Something more epic (like Lord of the Rings) really should be seen on a big screen at least once. For other moves it doesn't matter.

However, if I'm going to see a movie at a theater, I will only see it at the second-run theater in my town, not the normal theaters. I have to wait a little longer for cheaper tickets, a bigger screen, and better sound. It's a nice trade-off.

I don't mind going to movies by myself....I can sit quietly in a dark room alone just as easily as I can with somebody. But the cinema in my town is pretty crappy AND it's damn expensive. And the only other option is the single screen downtown that only shows artsy independent films - and it's really expensive.

There been times when I went to the movies by myself. Have a day off, everyone else is busy. Go early. When I go by myself, I go early to get the cheaper price.

The frequency with which I have gone to the movies over the past decade is directly proportional to the popularity of cell phones and other electronic devices.

The last time I went to the cinema was about 4 years ago when my than girlfriend answered her cell during the movie. I was incredulous, to say the least.

I love going to the cinema, and seeing movies on the big, big screen. However, with finances and prices the way they are, we generally limit our movie viewing to movies we really want to see with great special effects (Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, X-Men, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings movies to name recent examples). Any other type of movie, we wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it. Or better yet, borrow it when the library acquires it.

And we always shut off the cell phone in the theater.

I cannot go to a movie house without getting into a fight. And contrary to what it might sound like sometimes, I do not like getting into fights.

Especially after I've paid an admission fee. If I'm going to get into a fight, I prefer to do so for free.

I have Netflix and a Roku box. I also have a nice big tv, a well stocked bar, snacks for low carbers in the kitchen, and comfy pajamas.

So no. I haven't been to the movies out since Pirates of the Carribean. The first one.
