  • Why do most message boards have something against Second Life?

Because i was on one message board a Law forum in the off-topic area and i posted whether anyone uses SL hanging out at nightclubs and the people started saying LOL, the clubs are fake.

    Why is that?

    my avatar in it.

That's an unfair generalisation; plus your version sounds a bit one sided. Did you try and take the thread over? I remember someone doing that on a site I admin, constantly going on about Gaia and their avatar there; they eventually were temp banned and never came back after their ban was up. I don't have anything against Second Life, I'm just not interested and I find that a lot of people who are obsessed with that seem to take my view as a personal insult. Usually too they start bashing Gaia, which I play, as tho that gives their view more merit.
"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

Well i view if you play a different game from me,then i don't have any problem with it at all. Because i never played Gaia but from the pics it looks a lot like SL.

        Why is that?
Because that's a common spam tactic.

"Hey, someone I know got rich this way!" That then lures in people to respond "Oh, how?" *insert spam pitch.* It's a bit more involved that the common spam techniques, but it doesn't usually get you banned instantly from somewhere, thus making it a better time investment for long term spamming. If they'd had something similar on the board, they'd just not wanna bother taking the time to find out if you're a spammer or not.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

Well i'm not a griefer, because i belong to a anti griefer group in second life.

well i was also asking if other people use second life.

i also feel that this forum hates Furries or something.

            This was a Law forum?

I realize you were posting in their off topic section, but maybe it's not that kind of forum. I don't know about Second Life, but the Furry lifestyle may not be an appropriate topic for a conservative forum.

I think Broom is right about that Second Life/spam connection. It's such a common spam tactic that, to be completely honest, I thought long and hard before approving this thread. So that might have been your problem.

And they're to know this affiliation to a group, how? Also, the effectiveness of said group? As you pointed out, they didn't seem to be fans of the game, so they're not likely to have knowledge of groups within the game.

Second, are you referring to the mystery forum, or to this one? Because if it's the mystery forum, and you're talking about something like 4chan (probably the most famous anti-furry board around), I'm surprised you got out with your psyche intact.

It really doesn't matter what YOU consider it. It's how others perceive it. If you act exactly like a spammer, even if you aren't one, you get treated like one.

Individual members might have, but this board is generally neutral to allow itself to be a debating forum.

Yep, as the big boss says, the board itself is neutral, though members have differing opinions. That's kinda the point of this place. I doubt you'd get a firm consensus on anything as simple as the sun coming up, let alone a topic like furries.

What I forgot to mention was that humans are very tribalistic. My lot against your lot. My tribe against yours. My family against yours. My nation against yours.

There's an unmistakeable trait through history of large groups of people being led by people who tell the masses that the group over there (other city state, country, next village with a different accent, different colour skin etc) doesn't like us or is inferior etc, so there's a really good reason to go to war. Belittling them is part of the process.

Hitler managed to rouse the German nation against the Jews, Gypsies, and homosexuals. Stalin did similar (killed more Jews than Hitler, if memory serves). Hutu and Tsutse warfare has been going on for years. Football fans over here have had a pretty vicious track record for beating on each other.

Us against them - very powerful motivator if you can find a way to harness it.

Maybe, they have a family member or friends that are into it.

That might be the case. Or then again, it might be because someone gets their panties into a knot about anything that is different to them.

So because they have a family or friend who plays Second Life, who manages to be part of this group, they are to know a random person appearing on a message board for the first time is also part of that group who plays Second Life? I don't think that axel leads off every first post in a new forum with "I am part of an anti-griefing group in Second Life." No. I don't think so.
