Putting it like that, then I agree with you.

Thanks. I think it would be nice if it was possible to find out for certain what someone's intentions are, and details like being part of an anti-griefing group, but the time investment in ferreting out every single spammer means occasionally someone gets caught in the crossfire.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

Here are the bylaws of the group

GridWatch is a resource/tactical channel for all active SL peacekeepers, allowing them to communicate in real time. Our mandate is simple: to protect the residents of Second Life from griefer attacks.

No groups or persons who use scripted weapons to retaliate against griefers need apply. Failure to adhere to the Terms of Service is grounds for immediate removal.

You might be seeing some of this backlash due to the fact that you started out the post with "Why do you have something against it" instead of "Hey, anyone out there play SL?" Starting out a debate on the defensive usually brings people in to the debate, and they feel like they either have to tell their side in a more aggressive way, or they have to build up your side. No one enters on neutral ground.

Also, this board is pretty neutral on most, if not all things. Porn, Smoking, Tazing 72 year olds... We've got it all. Why would you say that this board has something against the Fur community? Can you bring up specific incidents? Knowing what has been said would either make or break your argument with this.

That being said, I don't really play SL. I've seen it around, had friends that played, but I never got into it. It was the same with Gaia, and most message boards. I'll post for a while, then just end up lurking. Even message board Role-Plays, I'll be way into it, then just stop playing (Usually asking a fellow RPer to kill off my character. Write out the epic battle, too. haha).

Also, I'm not much of a furry fan, to be honest. I can see how people would like it, but it just doesn't do anything for me personally.

Agreed: Axel, give us some fodder for discussion: where have you seen a decidedly anti-furry bent on Fratching? Individuals here will have specific viewpoints that may go against yours; however, in any given thread, you'll see pro and con, back and forth.

I actually haven't seen one thread about the furry fandom. Yet. But there might yet be some I haven't yet seen. Having been a fur since, oh, 1997, I can safely say that at least 30% of the fandom fully deserves the reputation it gets, with its hyper-focus on sexuality - but then, many otaku are equally horny And sci-fi, fantasy, anime and furry cons all have the distinct possibility of the con-goer encountering "unwashed funk," which I've noticed by experience (at the next local con, I'm going to be handing out Zephyr Skunkle brand soap - first on the list of instructions, "Remove your tail and ears - they DO come off") Every fandom has its problem people, and they naturally tend to give the rest a bad name.

Now, I do find SL interesting, especially in the range of things that can be created there. This variety never fails to surprise me, really. I don't have any issues with Second Lifers - I simply don't play because I know I would get absolutely addicted. I agree that bringing up the famous few who've made Lindens into sizeable amounts of real cash will pop up red flags on message boards, as yes, this sort of thing is most often a segue into someone's get-rich-quick marketing.

Also to be avoided are arguments beginning with "Why do you hate..." or "Why does everyone on here..." These are loaded questions and will put anyone on the defensive, since they imply that you are accusing rather than asking, and they can be hard to answer in a way that cannot be construed as sounding guilty. It's like the old question "Senator, when did you stop beating your wife?" It begins with the accusation, and then leaves those respondiong standing accused and required to defend themselves.

So... again, if you have reasons to believe Fratching has an anmti-furry bent, PLEASE put 'em here. I'd like to see the furry threads and form an opinion of my own.
