Obama has young daughters who are probably fans of one or both of those artists (Kanye West or Taylor Swift). He's just a man with a very important job. It doesn't mean that ALL he does is do official, presidential duties.

I thought it was funny and kind of endearing to hear him comment on something like this.

Obama didn't make a point of going to the media. It was a comment picked up by a reporter who promptly spilled the beans on Twitter; when this was discovered, the Twitterbug - or maybe it was the site itself, I don't remember - removed the post. (He/the site did this at their own behest, fyi - nobody told him/them to do it.)

I don't really think Bush's detached uncaring stupidity is race specific to be honest. Although Kanye IS a jackass and I laughed my ass off when Obama commented on it. In Obama's defense, it was suppose to be off the record. If you watch the video, the look on his face right after he says it is priceless. As he realizes someone's probably going to leak it and he'll be listening to it overblown in the news for the next 3 weeks.
