  • Most Evil Video Game Character

I'm sure everyone is expecting me to come up with something else than this... but to my mind, the most twisted, malevolent, evil character ever to exist in a video game is... that blasted dog in the Duck Hunt game. If you hit the ducks, it steals your kill and probably eats it; if you fail, it jumps up and laughs at you. No wonder there are flashes people made where the dog gets shot. Gah.
"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

Since the dog's taken, I'll come up with something new.

Are we talking most effect on the game world? Kefka from FF VI. Destroyed the entire world and ruled over it. Or maybe the Umbrella Corporation.

Effect on a small number of people? How about the town of Silent Hill. Concentrated evil that sucks in people by preying upon their weaknesses.

Most persistent? How about Bowser. Guy's been playing kidnapper for over a decade in literally dozens of games.
Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

The twins in Streets Of Rage. Those bosses drove me mental for ages when I first played the game and it took me a while to finally beat the bitches. -.- They just flip and jump all the time, and unless you're playing as Blaze it's almost impossible to hit them.

Edit: I found that flash I talked about in my first post where you can shoot that damn dog and here it is.

        Enjoy. XD

Ha! Gotta agree with you Lace, whenever I played Duckhunt, all I ever wanted to do was shoot that damn laughing dog! *laugh*

I can still hear his mocking laughter in my head!

I dunno, Dr. Robotnik from the Sonic series was pretty evil..picking on the innocent bunnies and forest creatures...

I always got a kick out of releasing them from those egg things and having the critters bounce away in a thousand directions! (Sonic decided me in the Genesis vs. SNES war back in the day) XD

XD Same here; well, it's pretty easy to tell. XD I thought that some of the later games fell down, plotwise and game wise, but never come accross one that was completely unplayable. I thought that Mephiles was a very evil villain; only let down by his incredibly cheesey evil laughter.

As for Robotnik; a guy who picks on innocent little forest creatures and seals then in robots is obviously a monster. O_o Tho in the Sky Chase zone in Sonic 2; if you free the turtles and chickens there by bouncing on the robots, they then fall to their deaths. XD

LOL I almost forgot about that! I might have to dig out my Genesis. I haven't played that game in ages!

Wish I could; my Megadrive died years ago and I haven't yet found a replacement for it. At the moment, I have no console but instead play on other people's as much as is humanly possible. XD

Let's see, other evil characters; M Bison in Streetfighter was pretty evil. And annoying as a final boss; it took me ages to finally beat the bastard, especially since I couldn't use the 2p cheat to get past him the way I did for Saget. *whistles innocently*

I'm mostly inclined to use examples from old skool computer games; I have played a lot of modern ones, but some of them fall way down in playability when compared to the old ones.

Not to mention that he did it because he could.

Also, Emperor Gestahl wasn't exactly a shining knight. After all, his original plan was to force Kefka and Celes to have children to create an army of magic users.

Damn Broomjockey, you nominated all the good ones

How about Lavos, the planet-eater from Chrono Trigger?
On second thought, no. Lavos wasn't consuming worlds from the inside-out just for the fun of it, that's just what it does. Can't blame a lion for tearing apart and chowing down on a gazelle can we?

                    There's Necrosaro/Psaro the Manslayer from Dragon Warrior/Quest 4.
If memory serves me correctly, he and his henchmen were willing to kill children to ensure the Chosen One would not oppose him.

Gravekeeper: The Tribe or the Gunship?

Guess you missed the part of him doing it for genetic purity.

                        There are but two:

Irenicus from Baldur's Gate 2. Evil bastard. Voiced by fabulously evil David Warner. One of the few video game villains that actually inspired anger and vengeance in me as I played.

                        and

                        Shodan. God damn Shodan. <shudder>.

Much like the Duck Hunt dog, then. XD

See I'm partial to Darkforce from Phantasy Star. He could haunt you in your dreams, took over control of people, destroyed a planet made life a living hell for the people of that solar system, as well as survivors of the destroyed planet. And every time you killed him he'd return a thousand years later when no one remember who he was from the destruction he caused

How about the mysterious guy in the suit in the Half-Life games? Every so often you're in the middle of getting shot at or trying to find your way thru a maze of rooms and locked doors, and there he is standing in the background somewhere. Does he help you? Hell no, he stands there and watches for a bit and then walks away. At the end of the first one, you finally meet him face to face, and he takes all your weapons away, and gets you killed if you don't agree to work for him.

Every time I see him I try to shoot him from a distance, but of course, nothing happens. One time, thru an extremely rare glitch that I've only seen once, I found myself standing face to face with him in the transporter room. I started beating the hell out him with the crowbar, but it just clanged like he was made of metal.
