  • Dear M. Night...

    What the hell?

ok I could put up with a bad movie, I could put up with bad acting but with three seasons of episodes of the character's names being pronounced clearly out loud why would you have pretty much every character's name be mispronounced in the movie?

especially when you claim to be a fan of the show.

I watched it last and quite frankly fuck you. I really don't want to rant about this, because it's all already been said so I'll just say this Ebert's .5 out of 5 may have been right.

He's made so many crap movies that he doesn't have any business directing a home movie. It's been 11 years since he made one good one, the "Sixth Sense" and after so many attempts he just needs to be stopped.

At the risk of sounding like a gormless twat, what movie are we talking about?

Having given up Television as a lost cause and not being able to see movies in the theaters thanks to the price gouging anal-violation at the box office and the state of the US economy...

...I'm a little out of touch with current pop culture.

Ok, so who's name gets messed up, and I'm starting to have second and third thoughts about seeing this tomorrow night.

Well, I've heard, at the least, that Sokka becomes Soke-a. And apparently, his isn't the only one - just the only one I've heard the 'new' pronunciation to.

I suppose we can consider it lucky that he didn't bring in Suki or the Kyoshi warriors - I'm afraid to know what he'd change those to.

Which movie are we talking about again?

I am not being a smart ass...I really do not know.

the last airbender, sakka is mispronounced, aang is mis pronounced, iroh is mispronounced and even more is mispronounced like the name of the fire duels.

The writing is horrible, the acting wouldn't have been as bad if they were given better lines and direction but it's horrible, the ending doesn't make any sense, this isn't so bad it's awesome it's really just dull, don't see, I was almost yelling at the screen over the name thing.

You know, the movie really isn't as bad as most people say it is... granted, I'm saying that as someone who never really got into the series until the last season, so I'm not that familiar with the first season to be able to compare it to.
That said, seriously, what the fuck with changing the names.
And, is it my imagination, or did everyone in the fire nation get much darker skin in the movie than in the series and then everyone else much lighter skin than in the series... seriously, am I the only one wondering if this isn't a subtley hidden light skin good/dark skin bad thing?

It's not your imagination, Smiley - that's been one of the biggest controversies since the movie was cast.

Has anyone seen the documentary he put out before the release, he changed the names to a more traditional Asian pronunciation, tho i will say the bad acting and horrible lines take it to be a summary of the first season and just wait to see if they will release season 2 and 3 as a movie next. Yes he admitted it was a summary and had to cut a lot because he was told the movie was too long for younger audiences, hmm a more mature version of that would be entertaining...

So, let's get this right. He whitewashed the heroes, but decided that the names needed to be more Asian in nature? Sounds like trying to find some justification for a 'change for the sake of change' mentality to me.

That STILL doesn't explain where he got "Soke-Ah" from Sokka.

In regards to the names begin more traditional, this is a western made show, it aired for 3 full seasons has several video games. It is not an anime that was translated, it is not being taken from a book, it is coming from a tv show that had already chosen the pronunciation for their own mythology so he's basically looking at the show and just saying he knows better than they do when they created it.

Also he seemed to cast actors/actresses purely because they looked like the characters but he completely changed the fire nation.
