I'm partial to the Tori Amos cover of 97' Bonnie and Clyde. It's creepy...

I was reading bits of this thread out loud to my husband and he was pulling up some of the songs that piqued my interest. Then he played a song not mentioned that I used to hear on XM all the time and LOVED.

Dope's cover of "You Spin Me Round." Husband said he always thought it was Powerman 5000 until he learned the band.

Now he's playing "Shock the Monkey" by Coal Chamber featuring Ozzy Osbourne. Never heard the original myself. Then he segued into "Cars" by Fear Factory. Not sure if I like this version better than the original; it sounds very similar.

FF cars is meatier, if they hadnt done that duet come cover, perhaps he would have done a 20th anniversary treatment like with metal and down in the park

Seriously? That's probably my favorite Peter Gabriel song, post Genesis. I've never heard that cover though. I'm gonna have to look for it.

I also like the Donna's version of Strutter by Kiss. Partly cuz I haven't heard any other decent covers of Kiss songs by other bands; but mostly cuz it's a girl band doing a Kiss song their way, and putting their own spin on it, which is the sign of a great cover version to my mind.

Also, while we're on the subject of Kiss, I will also mention their version of Argent's God Gave Rock And Roll To You, which I muchly prefer over the original; yes, I have heard it and I STILL say Kiss's version pwns it.

Does it count as a cover version if an ex member is doing the song? If yes, then I'll say that I prefer Ace Frehley's version of Hide Your Heart to Kiss's.

I remember Coal Chamber cover; liked it just as much as the original.

I also want to grab that Paul Anka rock covers album.

I'd also like to submit The Cruxshadows cover of "Here Comes the Rain Again." To me it's the way the song's supposed to sound.

Oh! Also, Rasputina's cover of "Bad Moon Rising." Same thing as above. Husband argues with me about that and keeps saying the song's supposed to be upbeat. I asked him, "Have you even LISTENED to the lyrics?" :P

Edit: Wow, I posted "Bad Moon Rising" on my Facebook and got flamed by my mother-in-law AND husband. My best friend from high school liked it, though. And turns out Rasputina was actually in town last month.

I don't know how I forgot about this, but if I had to list a cover that, in my opinion, completely blows away the original, I would have to say it's Chris Cornell's cover of Michael Jackson's Billie Jean.

                      Listen to it here

Okay, I have to say wow. I'm really not a fan of Michael Jackson's music, but this version is amazing.

As for covers, I found these two recently:

Hot in Herre by Nelly Covered by Jenny Owen Youngs ( I loathe the original version of this song, but the cover it just so entertaining)

                            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kwuIIsDjgZg

And I'm not sure if this counts as a cover, as she wrote on the song with Kelly Clarkson, but it's so so good. Walk Away by Kelly Clarkson covered by Chantal Kreviazuk.

I also like Marilyn Manson's cover of This Is Halloween, from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I know I'm listing a lot of Manson songs, but he's very good at covers. ^^

YES! I'd thought about suggesting this but forgot about it when I sat down in front of the computer.

I also like A Static Lullaby's version of "Toxic" by Britney Spears. Post-hardcore/screamo band makes that song sound awesome.
