I really like the past several covers mentioned.

I like Emilie Autumn's cover of "Gloomy Sunday." [Not the deluxe version, the a capella version she recorded in the bathtub. ] She didn't tack on that "happy ending," she stuck to the original. It sounds haunting.

I also like her version of "Bohemian Rhapsody," although I don't know that I would classify it as better. Just awesome in its own way.

I also like Nouvelle Vague's cover of "Master and Servant" by Depeche Mode. It sounds much...sultrier with a woman singing it.
"And I won't say "Woe is me"/As I disappear into the sea/'Cause I'm in good company/As we're all going together"

I havn't heard that version but I have heard the version from "music from the masses" or whatever the cover album was called, I agree the female versions rocked, I havn't posted for a week as I've been away, but I will keep an eye out for alot of the songs meantioned and agree that MM's covers are always interesting and although I didn't rate him after antichrist superstar, he could deliver covers even if I thought his own stuff sucked (puerly imo)

        a bit old school

I do like Smash Mouths cover of "I'm A Believer" (made popular in the Frist Shrek movie). I like the ending of the movie version of the song with Eddie Murphy doing some of the vocals.

Artist / Song / Original Artist

          U2 / Helter Skelter / The Beatles
Aerosmith / Come Together / The Beatles
Green Day / Outsider / The Ramones
Joan Jett / Everyday People / Sly & The Family Stone
The Who / Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting / Elton John

(some of the videos are poor quality, but the audio is fine)

I liked megadeth's cover of paranoid. they made it sound even better than ozzy. Alson their cover of Alice cooper's no more mr nice guy was very good as well. I liked the video for the song as well. Gwar did a decent cover of school's out by Alice cooper. Plus all the songs that Disturbed covered were amazing.

I just found out today that Judas Priest didn't do Diamonds & Rust first, Joan Baez did.

Jury's still out as to which one is better, though. I'm leaning towards JP, though.

Harry Nillsson's version of "Without You" is leaps and bounds better than the original version by Badfinger.

Speaking of Harry, Three Dog Night did a much better version of his "One".

I didn't realize Harry Nilsson wrote One......but I did know about Joan Baez and Diamonds and Rust.

As long as we are going back that far I always like Nicolette Larson's version of Lotta Love better than Neil Young's original. And anything done by Bob Dylan is going to be better as a cover no matter who does it. Sorry he can write but he can't sing worth a crap in my opinion.

I agree on Nicolette Larson and Dylan. One of my all-time favorite recordings is Thunderclap Newman's version of Dylan's "Open the Door, Homer".

If you like rock music circa 1969, pick up Hollywood Dream by Thunderclap Newman. It was produced by Pete Townshend (he also played bass) and contains "Something in the Air" (which, by the way, was covered by Tom Petty in a dud performance).

Interesting I'll look into that. And something told me you'd be familiar with the Nicolette Larson reference.....I do love Neil in his own right though there are songs of his no one could touch. Lotta Love just seems like a girl song to me.

Another album you might find interesting is this one, if you like covers; especially of Beatles songs.

Interesting and some of the songs I'm familiar with although I didn't see Aerosmith and Come Together...that was kick ass. Or when Steve Martin did Maxwell's Silver Hammer.

Yet more. XD I much prefer Kula Shaker's versions of Hush (Deep Purple) and Ballad Of A Thin Man (Bob Dylan) to the originals. Don't hit me. XD
