  • OMG! Offensive!!! Wahhhh!

I'll keep this short and sweet.

Ricky Gervais was HILARIOUS at the Golden Globes and didn't pull any punches or kiss any hollywood ass.

Now they're up in arms, because he was 'OMG! So offensive!'

Personally, I love Ricky...but even if someone doesn't - C'mon! It's not like his humor is not at least SOMEWHAT known. What did they THINK he was going to do, stand up there and not blast people?

    Ugh.

Some of this PC shit goes too far.

Now you know why I hate that PC BS. It's just ridiculous. The only useful thing to ever come out of it, In My Opinion, was the Politically Correct Fairy Tales and Bible Stories that were written back in the 1990s to show us how ridiculous the whole thing is. They did things like turn the story of "Jonah and the Whale" into "Jonah and the Differently-Sized Mammal"!

What's sad is that it seems that most of the people he was ripping on had a good sense of humor about it. Only a few, like legendary addict and ex-con Robert Downey, Jr., got their panties in a twist about it. I guess Downey thought the remarks might muddle his new, family-friendly, image.

Seriously. Yet it was okay for him to make jokes about all 5 of the female nominees making it to the list despite not sleeping with *him*. Then he went on to joke about 'giving it to all 5 of them', wink-wink...nod-nod. Hypocrite.

And you're right. From what I've read, the vast majority of the ones he ripped on were gracious and laughed it off. Too bad some of them clearly checked their senses of humor at the door.

And, OMG - AA !! On a purely superficial note (and because you love Broadway): How freakin' hot was Jeremy Irons as a presenter????

          Yowza!!

They hired Ricky Gervais and were upset he was offensive? Is their next move to hire Izzard to present and get upset if he shows up in a dress?

And on an additional note, I imagined the 'wahhh' being said as Waluigi.
              WAAAAAAAH!

Welllll, tbh, I didn't actually watch the awards ceremony itself, but I've read a bit of the aftermath, looked up the best/worst dressed*, etc. That said, I looked up a pic, and he still looks very nice in a tux.

                * Can we get rid of the long-sleeved, puffy-shouldered, over-sequined formal wear please?

I never watch them, as they tend to bore me.

But what were the jokes that made people so hated?

I used to avoid his slot on the 11 oclock show on channel 4 when he first started out, iir the same show that showcased Ali G and Dennis Pennis, he might have been funny, but I found the first two sections of his blegh and never bothered to see if he improved.

The best bit was the show was meant to be 11pm on a saturday night, not in the morning as it ended up being, so they were always skating on the watershed in what they could and could not do

If I ever have to read to kids, I'm going to read the original and gruesome fairy tales and to hell with political correctness. XD Reading Charles Perrault's fairy tales as a kid never did me any harm.

I didn't see the golden globes, but Ricky Gervais is funny. I did see his ad for the golden globes where he mocks the idea of the GG and it was hillarious. I can't explain or find it, but I'm sure it's on there somewhere.

At least Gervais is funny and entertaining, which is more than I can say for this year's Oscar hosts (James Franco and Anne Hathaway).

I think I may not have made my point clearly enough. Let me clarify. Politically Correct Fairy Tales and Politically Correct Bible Stories were HUMOR books, shelved by book stores in the HUMOR section. They were SATIRES, and were POKING FUN AT POLITICAL CORRECTNESS by showing us the ridiculous extreme it could be carried to. If you ever have to read to kids, you SHOULD read those to them, while explaining precisely WHY they're humorous, and while making sure to instill proper, NON-PC values in the young 'uns! That's the only way we can ever put an effective end to all this PC nonsense.

Heh. It went right over my head at first. I would have loved to have read those to my kids when they were little
