Husband showed me a few clips of the Golden Globes. A lot of what Ricky Gervais said was funny, but a lot of it was just stupid and lame too. I mean, Robert Downey Jr hasn't been a junkie for at least 10 years. Making fun of something that happened that long ago is dumb. Awards-show humor has to be current to be funny.

Oh, satires? They would have rocked; got a link?

I think the reason it didn't gel was cuz round where I am, there are ACTUAL PC Brigade versions of fairy tales, which make me weep cuz of the way they've been sanatised. Along with nursery rhymes; Baa Baa Black/White/Rainbow Sheep anyone?

Given when I bought them, and that I picked them up as bargain books, they're long out of print by now. So as I have time, I'll try using some search engines that search for rare and out of print books. Give me a couple days to see what I can turn up.

If I happen to remember where my copies are, I'll pull them out and post the ISBN numbers. That makes it MUCH easier to track down a second-hand copy.

I was offended by that bit, because it was not funny. Not because I care about Robert Downey Jr.'s feelings, but because the joke was stale. Not-funny stand-up is offensive to me.

              this.

But when he was making fun of Charlie Sheen in a similar fashion. I'll admit I laughed out loud. It was current and fresh and, lets face it, Charlie deserved it.

As for Robert (whom I adore), he needs to just get over it. People are going to continue to bring that up, likely till he's in his golden years.

But yeah, that bit was stale.

"My lawyers helped me write that joke" <3

I love Gervais. Though really, what did they expect inviting him? Its not like he's every pulled punches before, and he has no use for Hollywood. His career is mainly in the UK. Doesn't matter if he ticks anyone off.

That's like inviting Colbert to the White House an-...oh wait.

Exactly. So he might as well make peace with it.

As far as Charlie Sheen goes, IMO he's lucky that he still has a job after the crazy shit he's done. So, he can suck it up and take a few jokes.

As I told Fiance, Gervais will do the stand-up/TV thing for as long as it lasts, then, when he gets old, he'll do cheeky comedies with Eddie Izzard for the BBC.

Also, Stephen Colbert would make a brilliant awards show host.
