One song which really grates on my nerves at the moment is "Titanium." Somewhat OK-ish lyrics, but the singers voice drives me nuts. Here's the chorus:
I'm bulletproof, nothin' to lose / Fire away, fire away / Ricochet, you take your aim / Fire away, fire away / You shoot me down, but I won't fall / I am TI-TAIIIIINNNN-NEEEEE-UMMMMM"
Okay, I gotta revise this thread for some more songs. Some thanks to Todd In The Shadows reviews.
I like Todd, and he's right on the money in his reviews, and amusing to boot. Granted, his reviews have introduced me to some music I wish I never knew existed. >.>
Some of Kelly Clarkson's songs grate on my nerves, even though I like her a lot as a person.
To add to that, whenever she's interviewed and the conversation turns to her singleness, she always has to come up with some philosophical reason why she's single. I wonder if she's ever considered that it might be because most of the music she sings makes her sound like a girlfriend from hell.
However, I really do like that duet she did with Jason Aldean. "Don't You Wanna Stay"
It's not that I really hate it, but Satellite by Lena who won the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest for Germany is...well it's a good song, rhythm's bouncy, lyrics are slightly stalkerish (but I don't focus on lyrics, I listen to the music) but...her accent is some weird mishmash of English, American and German, and in some parts of the song it is jarring enough to make you stare at your speakers and think that they're broken.
She entered the 2011 ESC, and failed - eccch, awful song, not made any better by that awful accent!!
And yes I watch the ESC every year without fail and I get the album.
I looooove cheesy Europop like this. We throw a party every year and give out a rating sheet to everyone who comes round, and give points on the song, the dancing, the costumes and the complete WTF of several. ^^ Wolves of the Sea was one of the best from recent years.
One thing I hate is the trend of using autotune on singers who can sing very well without it. The modulated sound is just 'the hot sound' right now. I don't hate autotune, it can have uses in certain stuff. I hate the notion that every pop song must be autotuned to have those warbly pitch modulations.
I'll bet Rebecca Black CAN sing. Her current hit "Friday" seems to have terrible lyrics - even for mindless pop, which I often really enjoy, I think it's awful. But I'm betting she CAN sing, and I'd love to hear her do so without modulation.
These days, it's exposure that counts; you have to get your name out there past the thousands of other talented hopefuls.

...Quite impressive, yes. Her voice grates though. I can't quite put my finger on why, but it hits a tone thats just outside of normal tolerance so it becomes more annoying the longer you hear it. Like a young Fran Drescher.
She can't quite hit all the notes. It's hard to tell from just that example, but she definitely needs more training to survive in a world that isn't saturated with autotune.
Though, with the name recognition she already has, she's good for a couple of albums at least, regardless of how much talent she does or doesn't have.
