I didn't mind the movie, since the special effects were pretty cool. Well that...and the dig at the treasure hunters too But, the ending pissed me off. I knew that the ship was going to sink, but I *didn't* enjoy having to sit through an hour of that. "Sink the damn ship already!" in other words. At least they got the ship breaking in half right--some of the older flicks did not. Not surprising, since the wreckage wasn't even found until the mid-1980s...split in half in about 2-mile-deep waters.

my question is WHY???????? why torture us even more????

the Titanic bride from Etiquette Hell must be massively creaming in her jeans right about now.

Why God why? Is this the real rapture that will eventually come? I'd rather have the earthquakes that are supposed to be tomorrow.

Because 2D didn't suck enough, now we get 3/2 times the suckiness. Just when we were finally at the point where it played on TV maybe once a year.

For me it would have to be Pirates of the Carribean, and the endless sequels that followed it. My opinion might be biased because I'm not a Johnny Depp fan though. (I think he's creepy). I know it's not a popular opinion but there you have it.

No worries, I've never been a big fan of him either. I don't think he's ugly by any means, but I've never understood how so many women go absolutely nuts over him. I think he looks like one of those homeless artists.

I like his acting, but I can't figure out why so many women cream their pants over him.

He's no Matt Damon, that's for sure.

Ooh, I think Matt Damon's kinda hunky. (True Grit? The mutton chops? Even then.)

I like Depp as an actor, but wish he would accept the fact that he's 50 and stop looking like an emo/goth teenage girl. I didn't care much for Pirates, but that's more because of Orlando "WhinyPants" Bloom and Keira "FFS, Eat a Cookie" Knightly. So, I might actually like this new one.

ETA: I'm going to add one, and I'm going to get flamed for it. But that's alright. The Dark Knight. It was a good action movie, perhaps even better than average. It wasn't that good. Christian Bale is SO overrated (and, apparently, a jackass to boot), and y'know, I didn't care for Heath Ledger's performance either. I've said many times that he only received the Oscar because he died. For me, Aaron Eckhart really carried that movie, especially when he becomes Two-Face.

Aye if Heath was alive now, his performance of the joker would be alright.
I think alot of people felt they had to like if not love the movie and his performance only because he had died.
One online comic (I think its called video game cats, well its got blue and pink cats in it) commented that as a final film its better to go out on than Raul Julia's SF the movie.

Anyone else having to reprise the joker role (as he didn't die unlike Jack Nicholson's and other original movie run villains) would by fan standards have very big boots to fill.
It's just that with some characters we can not see someone else playing that role, say Daniel Raddclyfe died after movie 3 but all 7 books were to be made, fans might not warm up to the new Harry, I know one character (that I've no idea about) was recast, but IDK if he was a pivotal character.

I myself had never heard of Heath when it was announced he had died and have only seen Dark Knight and Sin eater (which I saw long after DK) so I don't know if his acting credentials are what everyone postumously rated them as.
If he had died before shooting, would he be remembered only as "that gay cowboy" or merely forgotten about?

Ginger, they had to replace Dumbledore because the original actor died. (I believe that was the 4th movie, but don't quote me, I'm not a Harry Potter geek.) I highly doubt that they'll have another person play the Joker in the current Nolan incarnation. They may allude to his existence, though.

Raul Julia was a vastly underrated actor in his lifetime. Most people know him from The Addam's Family movies, but he did a lot of work in live theatre, including Broadway.

I wouldn't worry, Admin. I liked that movie, but it wasn't all because "ZOMG Heath Ledger DIED!"

The same thing happened when Whacko Jacko died, all of a sudden everyone was such a huge fan and defending Jacko against anything negative anyone would have to say about him. Granted, Heath Ledger was not a child molestor and was a pretty great guy all around, I don't think he had as big of a fan base until he died.

And I agree about Christian Bale. He seems like such an awful person to have to deal with professionally. Can you say freakshow?

I like Depp ok, but I really don't get the squeeing fangirlism over him. One of my friends does that. She's stood in lines for hours for the premiers and to watch the stars do the red carpet walk. I like the Pirates movies ok (bought the trilogy on cheap from the Disney Movie Club).

The Dark Knight wasn't bad, either, but not sure it needed the hype. And I agree that Ledger wouldn't have gotten the award if it wasn't for pity votes. I've seen it in figure skating, too - one skater survived a skate blade to the head, so for the next few years, they got better scores than they deserved.

As for the SF movie, he did that for his family, so while the movie was crap, it was at least something he was excited to be a part of.

Since there's a lot of it going on, I'm going to go ahead and start the Overrated Actors thread.

This probably deserves its own thread

As I said in my post, IDK if he is pivotal or not, did the change of actor 'ruin' the charater for people or did they just go "well that guy died so we have this guy now"?
But Harry and the other two, if one got too big for their boots or died between films and had to be recast, would it hurt the immersion?

Some acting changes work others ruin it, Dr Who regenerates and we get a new face and personality and we all have a fave doctor, it was mid season when I warmed to Matt Smith, Karen on the other hand had me with that WPC outift.
Batman pre reboot Keaton all the way, I don't think I could even bring myself to watch the others.
