Ok...so what makes Gaga so great?

I'm not a gaga hater by any means, I even some of her songs...but I don't get the worship. I know it's typical for there always to be some sort of female icon, it was Madonna, and I remember a while when Britney was the queen bitch of the universe, and I remember something about this Aguilera girl being the best, and many others, but I don't recall any of them getting so much attention as GaGa, and I just have to ask...what makes her so special?

Mostly: She's a freak.

Actually, she has quite a lot of talent. She can't write lyrics that make sense, but she does have an excellent grasp of meter and rhyme and really knows what a catchy dance tune is supposed to sound like and easily capable of capturing that. Which puts her quite a bit ahead of pretty much all the divas that cropped up since Madonna.

The fact that she wants to create fashion trends (which she's somehow managing to do despite her fashions being completely off the wall) is what keeps her at the forefront of the news blurbs.

I like her music in general, although I'm honestly not blown away by the new album. There are some good songs, but halfway through I was like, "Okay, I was also alive and listening to pop music in the late 80's/early 90's." There's a song so similar to Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" that I can't believe it was released. But compared to what else is in the Top 40 (Ke$ha, Katy Perry, countless whiny boy bands)....she's definitely above average.

I really liked her first few singles. Then the obnoxious costumes, the bloody performance on MTV, the Egg thing at one awards show earlier this year.....she's just an absolute freak show.

I really don't care for her that much anymore. No one should have to be that damn weird just to be popular. There's being different....there's having your own style.....then there's being a total obnoxious freak.

She's not that weird to be popular. She honestly thinks that she has great fashion ideas and wants to share them. It's not an act; it's who she is.

Madonna and Cher are both more talented than Gaga is, and not quite as fuck ugly.

She does write songs, not just her own but for other stars as well. Telephone was actually chosen for Brittneys album but dropped at the last minute. I believe she has written for Justine Timberlake as well.

But ugly? Compared to Cher? Really? And Madonna only became a sex symbol because of her eroticism, not her face. The only thing I find disappointing is that Gaga has lost so much weight. I hope that's just a natural side effect of touring, and not a deliberate move to be more marketable.

I believe she has quite an open relationship with cocaine. She has said so openly in an interview I can try to find it if you want. She said it helps inspire her.

Gaga's got quite a nose on her, which is often emphasized in unflattering ways by her hair and makeup choices. In some shots she looks pretty homely. In others, she looks really pretty, and I can't figure out what was different from one to the next to make such a difference.

She sings whatever she wants to and wears whatever she wants to without fear what people would think or say, and she doesn't care about controversy like the meat dress, or the the Alejandro music video, or the latest thing being the Judas single and video. I think she's got a hell of a voice and talent, and I think it's cool that she has shock value that isn't focused on sexuality, but crazy outfits and religion twice.
