Well aware am I of the fact that he is a transvestite. As a fan of his and having watched many of his DVD's and listened to his CD's I would have to be a completely oblivious idiot to not be aware of that.

However that being said, two points.

    1. His first attempts to get his career started were not in women's clothing. He really didn't start talking about his transvestism at venues until 1992.

    2. In his 2003 performance called "Sexie", Eddie Izzard came out on stage wearing a set of tits. Even talked about them in his stand-up

Lady Gaga - Wears weird clothes and acts the way that she does on stage and in front of the camera. Her stage performances are unconventional and at times controversial. Yet people are worshiping her for her music saying that it is awesome.

Apart from the fact that Lady Gaga has done nothing coming close to the shenanigans of MJ and in fact does a lot to support the LGBT community, again I have to ask what's the difference?

Frankly she is a musician that employs a gimmick to keep her name in the public's mind. So what else is new?

I can't see what those points actually have to do with anything. I can't figure out how either of them in any way supports the idea that Izzard became popular due to being a transvestite as opposed to, say, being urged by Robin Williams to bring his act over the US and subsequently having said act aired on HBO. Honestly, you do the man a disservice by your assertion.

That's ok. I fail to see what's the big deal about Lady Gaga all of a sudden.

If people here don't like her, then they have the freedom to ignore her which I was doing for quite a while. Heck I largely ignored Michael Jackson up until he snuffed it.

If people don't like what I post then they have the same freedom to ignore me. I'm fine with that.

As Captain John Sheridan said to Ambassador G'Kar on Babylon 5...

"Now if this bothers you, I suggest you stay in your quarters, stick your fingers in your ears, and hum real loud until it's over."

MJ got popular before he was weird. Lady Gaga got popular because she was weird. I fully admit her music is very catchy and her videos are interesting. But at the same time, MJ didn't become weird until he was already widely popular. Lady Gaga got popular because she was different and weird. It played a big part in her rise to fame. Her music is good enough now that she probably could remain famous without dressing ridiculous or her stunts. But unlike MJ, she needed the ridiculousness to get where she is now.

People are also free to point out that the statements in questions did absolutely nothing to back up the assertion they were supposed to support and were nothing more than a pair of factoids that mean nothing in context. So, since there is zero evidence to back up said assertion, that is what I'll be ignoring as made up to try to make a point and failing entirely.

While I don't dispute that her dressing like a freak probably contributed to her name recognition to a very high degree, her popularity as a pop artist is based on her being good at being a pop artist.

She probably didn't need the freaky outfits, they just made her a household name a lot faster than just having talent would have and, honestly, even if all they are for is to get her name in the news rags (which I don't believe to be the case), it's a brilliant decision.

I like (no, LOVE) Gaga because she makes great music, works for gay rights, and seems like an all-around great person. She's a pop star, with a little bit of the "grrr" of a rock star.
