AKA people who hate it explaining why they hate it leading to people wanting to witness the train wreck ;p
lol I'm reminded of Brian Griffin talking to Rush Limbaugh. "Have you ever read my book, Brian?"

"Well no, but I've read other things people have written about your book and I do not approve mister!"

I do not like Twilight. But I also do not know much about the series, other than the fact that I will never read it. I saw the first movie not even knowing anything about the books, and was less than impressed. Not my thing at all. And I wouldn't have gotten more hateful than that if not for the explosion of crazy fans that sprung up from it. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those crazy anti-fans, either. I try to mind my own business and do my best to keep myself away from the hysteria and merchandise. But when I worked in electronics when New Moon came out on DVD, I frankly got disgusted by some of the people who I had to deal with.

However, I have friends who love the series and that's cool. I'm not about to go cutting friends off because their taste in books/movies differs from mine. But it helps that my Twilight-loving friends are not the insane posse kind of fans

My big series is Harry Potter. I love it. Have all the books, seen almost all the movies (because of too much going on I sadly still haven't been able to see the last movie yet, but that will be rectified soon), went to the theme park last summer, have some fun merchandise. I know people who think Harry Potter is the crappiest thing ever, and that's cool, too.

No matter what you like or don't like, there's going to be others out there who disagree with you, and anyone who gets their panties in a wad over something so silly is just, well, silly in my opinion (to clarify, I'm talking about more pop culture things, rather than more serious issues that have real, lasting consequences for groups of people)

What I think the different reasons are:
        1. What Gravekeeper said. They have to see the train wreck.
        2. Logic is thus: "<Item> is objectively bad! How can you not understand how bad <item> is?! I shall research it and show you <item> is bad!"
        3. Tried it, hated it, feel the need to be an all-out critic whenever the chance comes up.
        4. Jumping on the "everyone hates it so I'm bashing it too" bandwagon.

I'm a bit of the "I liked it and then it went stupid and I hate not liking it now" type with Harry Potter (different ideas but both item #3 on mine and Rageaholic's lists). The breaking point for me was in Half-Blood Prince - to be specific and un-spoiler-y for the 2 people who haven't read it but plan to, that scene with Snape, where Harry is asked just where did he find that book?

And upon reading the excuses Harry failed at throwing out, I just sighed, sat it down, and said to myself, "Harry Potter has somehow utterly failed to mature and I'm tired of seeing that."

As for Twilight? I've read reviews, and excerpts, and horror stories of the superfans, and this... And it just looks all-around bad to me. Not that I'd be interested in it even if it were utterly masterfully written and Stephenie Meyers unanimously declared our generation's Shakespeare. I don't do romance. But I generally keep my opinion to myself unless there's already sparkle-bashing occurring or I'm asked for it.
"The hero is the person who can act mindfully, out of conscience, when others are all conforming, or who can take the moral high road when others are standing by silently, allowing evil deeds to go unchallenged." — Philip Zimbardo

*twitch* Thanks for being just leery but not insisting even after learning the publication dates that they were twilight inspired.

I do not pursue the Twilight series in any form but have been subject to forced dissertations on the subject. Can't listen to the radio at work and hard to tune out other people's conversations.

That being said any time a Vampire movie/popular book comes out good or bad suddenly everything from the Nightworld series by LJ Smith to Bram Stoker's Dracula is said to be inspired by the newly created property.

As far as the OP part of the reason is the same reason some Non Christians read the Bible cover to cover. When you state, I don't agree, Like or have interest in the most common argument to why your opinion is invalid is....audience? "How could you know if you have never read it?"

Yes if you were to say something like, "Yeah I just wouldn't like the Twilight books" "How would you know you haven't read them? You can't possibly know you wouldn't like them until you read them cover to cover so get started"
