As vampires have as yet been proven to exsist, its all myths and legends as to what their powers were or were not.
Vampire bats survive of drinking blood, a trait atributed to Vampires, could a human being and I stress human being, not a vampire or mutant or supernatural being of some such, genuinly survive drinking nothing but blood?

Bennet the sage did a review of an old Anime called Vampire wars (I think) in it Vampires are proclaimed to be aliens who just happen to look human, so these vampires although having long life spans are able to reproduce as, unless the story did indeed make them infertile, they are an alien species that can breed with its fellow aliens, breeding with humans though, might be like getting a gorrila and a chimp to get jiggy with it.

No. At the very least you'd need an orange once and a while. However, the classic vampire isn't limited to blood. He needs it to live, but they still seem to enjoy fine dining aside from that. Even if it supposedly does nothing for them.

My personal favourite depiction of vampires is Vampire: The Masquerade. Now that's some good vampirin'

I've read that in a few books, "Oh I can eat a steak but my body doesn't absorb anything from it, I just like the taste." most recently in the Morganville serise.

The Night World vampires can eat human food, they just don't get anything from it. Blood is power, food and also rudimentary for breathing; vampire blood cells can't carry oxygen, so they need human blood in order for their blood to have oxygen carrying cells. The vampire blood eventually destroys the human blood cells, so that's why they need to feed every day.

Piers Anthony touched upon vampires in the 8th book of his "Incarnations of Immortality Series" in the book Under a Velvet Cloak. It deals with the incarnation of Night. The same being has possessed Night for a very long time. (Even before the other incarnations were born). The reason she could stay the incarnation for so long? She was turned into a vampire.

The way Mr. Anthony dealt with it (it's been a while since I read it), is that you have to be bitten by one, and then you're a vampire. No exchanging of blood, no being sucked dry and then having the vampire's blood put back into your own body and reanimating you.

And the only thing sparkly about Night is her sparkly velvet cloak.

Stephanie Meyers should have really done some research into her subject matter before she wrote her series.

Well, one thing to remember is that her vamps have arrested development.

They literally cannot change and become more mature than they are at the point of being turned. So turning anyone who wasn't an adult or who was generally immature should be considered particularly horrific, though not necessarily to the one turned, since they lack the understanding to actually understand how awful their situation really is.

This is very much true. However, I don't have a problem with her having silly fantasy characters. It's her reported lack of attention to geographical facts that is particularly distressing.

For me... i liked the series but... i figured "edward" because he was the truly forbidden fruit.

Jacob was wild and warm and technically was a bit of a "bad boy" ... but he was what everyone thought she should have. and when push came to shove and she had to pick.... she wanted edward more.

now personally when it comes to the movie and the book im more of a "team carslile" fan. not for bella of course... i just like him the best. and alice.

Yes it is and they recently in the last few years released the series again and last I heard it is being continued which is wonderful because it was actually out of print for almost ten years if not longer. I first read it in high school and was always bummed that it wasn't continued.

The thought of having sex with a man who is no warmer than room temperature would send me screaming into the night.

                    That is all.

Yes, but if you were stuck eternally 17, would you seriously spend it going to high school? And would you seriously still be acting like you're 17? Well, 12 in the case of Meyers characters.

Also, this is a good summary. >.>

The worst part about this statement is you know that out there, somewhere, is a Twilight fan that buys a lot of popsicles.

Actually it really depends on the person and depends on what part of high school.

I actually went to high school with a girl that turned out to be a 30 year old woman who was lying about her age and would move to a different town after high school ended in order to go all over again.

But also think about your ability to socialize. Where do you or did you meet most of your friends that you hang out with?

If your an adult we can go to bars and such. If your stuck at 17 most older people would never take you seriously nor want to hang out with you. The people that would are stuck in school so most of the time you would spend a lot of time alone.

Now me I am a loner I can comfortably spend large periods of time alone and it doesn't drive me insane. But imagine that like most people your social and you don't really need to sleep during the day. Would you avoid the only opportunity to hang out with people?

I mean hell who even says you have to put up with half the BS. You don't care about grades, or trying to get into a good college. You have been around enough that you probably don't get your ego bruised when that set of kids doesn't want to play with you.

Added bonus when things in the world change you get to find out about them. Think of the times parents find out about a change in a field from helping their kids with homework. Also staying social and not being in isolation will help with the social evolution.

Physically you won't evolve and likely will no longer appear human. However socially if you continually go to High School you will be current with the most current trends, slang, and unofficial language rules instead of still sounding like the guy who was in Shakespeare's first production of Romeo and Juliet.

That's subjective though. My own social circle shifted dramatically when I was 17, and I've never gone to bars at all even in my adult life.

Yes and no. It takes a while for current social, economic and scientific progress to actually make it into the text books. You could keep better ahead of them just by paying attention to the news and other media. Plus, depending on where you are ( such as some areas of the US ) the education system could be rather miserable. Or could be locked in a debate over crap like evolution vs intelligent design or other silliness.

Plus, Edward himself is still pretty within the scope of "living" history so to speak. He was born in 1912 I think it was. Modern history class in school spends quite a bit of time on major events Edward wouldn't really need a refresher on: WW1 and 2, Cold War, etc.

Also, social trends at a teenage level change pretty rapidly and are typically pretty damn stupid. I ignored most of them growing up. For instance, at my school, to get around the burdgeoning gay acceptance rules some of the jocks starting saying "Yag" instead of "Gay". It was hilariously stupid. But they thought it was quite clever. The trend died off pretty quick. ;p

Honestly, if I was to spend my eternity as a 17 year old, I would not be paying too much attention to what was going on around me just so I could ace a test in history 50 years down the line, hell I don't pay that much attention to whats going on around me, riots in London and I don't know or care how they got started, so ask me in 20 years time what the cause of the London riots was and I will say "What london riots?" hell ask me in two years.

Think about socializing with no one for eternity. Especially in our time when increasingly adults distance themselves from anyone perceived to be in their teens for fear of being thought something bad.

Subjective? I mean with me for example I am a loner for the most part so I could socialize via the web and it wouldn't negatively affect me and no one would be aware of my age. There are a few and I stress a few situations where you could socialize with someone older but even then your dating pool is limited if people are convinced your under-aged.

If your lucky then at 17 you could have passed for 20. If your unlucky like me you could have passed for 15. Imagine the only dates you can get being high schoolers because any adult would be accused of breaking the law.

Yes but they are also the formative years. For example the attitudes we establish in our late teens early 20s inform the world of what our generation is about. When I turned 25 articles were coming out left or right about many of us bouncing from job to job looking for work we enjoyed instead of just accepting the first job we got as being where and what we were stuck in.

This came from a teen life of bouncing from clique to clique none of us feeling you were hard set into any one group.

The kids younger than me that are stumbling over each other in high school on their way out of the closet making the world a better place to be gay.

A lot of the ideas and thoughts we develop in our late teens change the world. Racism now is more often people are accused of rather than something people have. How often are we appalled by something that our parents or grandparents accepted the way it was.

Imagine two immortals from the deep south both white slave owners who felt that their slaves were merely beasts of burden.

Immortal one isn't just reading in a newspaper about supposed changing attitudes but is personally experiencing them when the high school he is attending goes through desegregation versus Immortal two who read about the foolishness and his attitude doesn't change because none of his experiences back up what people are saying.
