There's a prequel out now, too.
I am assuming you mean the one made about 10 years ago by Tim Burton. that one was closer to the book but only in certain elements.

the new "version" out now looks to be a decent story arc beginning at least in the sense of how things in the original Rod Serling script were written.

I read the book after I saw the first movie or two. the book was rather bland to me.

Yeah, that's right. I liked the ending; it was a twist.

The new film IS a prequel; they're starting it at the beginning, when the apes first become intelligent.
"Oh wow, I can't believe how stupid I used to be and you still are."

That happens. To me the book was more brilliant in that it showed more respect to the apes.

The one thing I always had problem with the Planet of the Apes was, "We are an intelligent species at 20th century level of technology but we are going to act like we are the apes in a zoo."

It felt disingenuous like they were playing it as Bobo learned some new tricks.

When an ape got upset they reverted to a real life apes way of showing they were upset. When is the last time you started literally acting like a cave man because you were angry.

Also it's the 20th Century would you think living in Caves is an awesome idea?

That's what I loved about the book it was more real. It takes a realistic view at the concept and discusses the whole point of humans letting another species take over. One of the fears people have of technology is that if it does everything for us and we lay by the pool that we would become little better than dumb animals.

See, I have no problem with them re-doing a bovie that's based on a book, especially if they get closer to the book, it's the remaking of movies that aren't based on a book or similar that confuses me, "We're going to remake this movie and make it better" Better than what, the writer and directors idea and version of it that they've already done?

It would be nice to see more originals instead of remakes of old movies. It's getting old seeing remake after remake.

*nods* but on the same token I want to stop hearing every original movie praised as a masterpiece because it was original.

That can be just as annoying. "The movie sucked was dull and the story fell apart badly" "But it was an amazing movie look how original it was"
