This show is fake/rigged/whatever...

There were accusations going around some time ago that Jerry Springer was staged. Specifically, the fights.

If you think the Jerry Springer show is completely authentic, I've got news for you - a good chunk of the episodes were completely fabricated, using D-list (and below!) celebs for their lack of audience recognition. There was one, in particular, where the supposed couple were actually professional porn actors.

In short, many of the actors have confessed to being involved in completely fabricated, completely scripted segments on Springer. Are some of the stories legitimate? Yes, but even there, they encourage the participants to act up, overplay their legitimate claims, and generally act out-of-control without actually hitting each other - their wrestling coaches teach them how to throw realistic "hits" without actually hurting anyone.

I was on an episode of MTV's "Made" once. My professor was the "MADE coach" for a girl who wanted to be in her high school play. Part of her training was to play improv games for one of his 'classes,' which was basically any students he could round up during the summer. He was given 2 months to work with the girl, not one. They completely fabricated a romance between her and one of her guy friends. What was amazing to me is that it was all shot with one producer with one camera. That's it. She would ask us questions like, "What's Professor like? What do you think of Girl?" Our responses would be edited and rearranged. If we made a comment to each other, she'd swoop in and ask us to repeat it. It was....weird, frankly.

ETA: When we were actually doing the improv games though, we all started one-upping each other, doing the strangest stuff we could to get on TV. Professor thought it was hilarious.

When it comes to pro wrestling.. excuse me.. wrasslin, while I believe they are not in actuality trying to kill each other, I do respect them for going out in the ring and throwing each other around. No matter how well you practice or train, the shit hurts.

I believe springer, like wrasslin, is assumed to be fake. It's for entertainment only.

Other shows use lots of editting.

Anyone caught that show North Woods Law, about game wardens in Maine? Well, I live in maine, and a couple episodes are right in my hometown! But then when I was watching, they're narrating, describing my hometown, but....the camera shots are NOT my home town lol....nowhere near it.

My favorite example of a show being obviously staged is Operation: Repo. So the guy runs out of his house while the team is trying to quietly hook up his car, he has a fit, grabs a tire iron and starts bashing windows and swinging at the team. They barely make it into their truck and peel out... and as they squeal away, the on-board camera guy looks back behind them and Mr. Pissed is having a fit, cursing and swinging his tire iron, but not even attempting to hit the camera guy and the boom mike guy who've been left behind and are standing around him.

Now y'all've got me thinking... I just saw an episode of Ice Pilots. The plane broke down (as it seems to do every episode at least once, no matter which one they're using) and they had to land *somewhere they'd had no intention of going*. Yet the audience's POV of the landing is from the ground.

I think even good old Maury nowadays has to be 90% faked (and the other 10% would be the shows with all the video clips and overweight kids).

Would anyone really watch it if it wasn't for LaShawnda bringing the 17th guy to be tested because she's "110% sure" he's the father?

Re: The Ice Pilots landing - It's likely that in such cases, they'd do shots after the fact for the sake of framing and narrative. Even if they did end up somewhere totally unexpected, they'd get "dramatic recreation" shots for the final product.

Speaking of that: HOW MANY men DID that one woman have paternaty tested for her kid anyway???? I know it was some high number like 20 or so the last time I heard (years ago now).

I can't even remember....it's been so long since I've actually watched that show.

I do recall a woman who was up to the 17th guy......I would hope that show was rigged.

Which is a good idea. When I was going through Basic training there was a news crew following a group of soldiers through Basic for a special edition they were doing.

That group of soldiers weren't in the same Basic Training the rest of us were in they were in summer camp. They were treated less like people being trained to kill and defend each other and more "look how nice we are to these people" while the rest of us got real training.

I'm pretty sure that's another show where they openly admit at the beginning that it's fake.
