  • Marketing on the internet

Congratulations you have an infinite canvas but your audience has a finite attention span. Every time you advertise you need to have:
    A. What your product is
    B. Where your product is
    C. How to get your product

I once saw someone retweet someone else and it said "last day to purchase blah" with no further information whatsoever. I replied back (a bit sarcastically I admit) "yeah because a link wouldn't be helpful at all"

He replied that he had posted previously in twitter and I could look it up.
    WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
    A. you are selling the product, there was plenty of room for a link if you don't care enough to link I don't care enough to spend money
    B. Twitter is one fo the worst sites to go back and search, and it gets worse if I go to someone's direct page where it shows EVERYTHING they post
    C. You get retweeted, I've never seen any of your tweets before, I don't know who you are

Now on a similar note I find this:
    http://feminist-space.tumblr.com/pos...e-your-amazing

now look at all that space, nowhere on the poster does it say enter at... yes it does list a tumblr but it doesn't link that tumblr and I asked and apparently the rules and everything are at that tumblr but honestly the amount of space they put into this they couldn't put that one little bit of information.

I keep seeing this, it is your responsibility to impart information to me in marketing, you are trying to get me to give you my time or money then you need to get my attention and do it quickly. You are dealing a generation of lazy instant gratification obsessed internet surfers, get it right the first time.

There are exceptions: teaser type ads whose goal is to get you curious enough to pay attention later, and the related (though from what I can tell not as common now) medicine ads that did name the product, but left it up to you either to guess or to find out some other way what it was supposed to do. But these examples are just laziness or sloppiness.
