The blame squarely rests on Oprah. She's the one that keeps finding and promoting these quacks. Its her company that produces both Oz and Phil's shows and they both first appeared on her show.

You could spend ten solid minutes on her show talking about how ancient alien conspiracy theories are true and that's why your neighbor owes you $20 for the garden gnome of yours they broke or whatever, and it would be forgotten in 15 minutes, not become a viral example of idiocy.

Judge Judy is more sort of like Gordon Ramsay. You don't need to do anything to create drama. You just need to find a couple legitimately stupid people then put them near them. The rest takes care of itself.
