  • Question for anyone useing Leviticus to oppose gay marriage, etc

So here's a problem I've had ever since I read Leviticus and I'm curious what you all think.

Here's approximately the translation that I first read (courtesy of Nyoibo in smileyeagle's thread because I don't have a bible handy at the moment):

Here's my question: If I want to have sex with another woman, that's cool, right? I mean, the bible doesn't say anything about a woman lying with a woman as one lies with a man, so God must be fine with that, right?

And yet when was the last time you saw anyone opposing marriage for gay males only? How do you justify opposing lesbian marriage based on this verse?

I think that's a Pauline thing, since I asked a while ago and it's mentioned elsewhere.

of course it would be okay. The Bible was written by man and Mena think women on women is hot. Even holy men can be subject to hypocrisy.
I have no doubt that my former elders quorum president would have no problem watching woman on woman porn to get off, not that he would admit it, he oh was just as focused on sex as everyone else. He may have been honest when he said that he did not watch porn or have sex outside of marriage. However, he would most likely be the exception and not the norm. All people think about sex. As Freud said, the only unnatural sexual behavior is to not have any.

Exactly; the only passage in the Bible that, as usually translated before, say, 1950, included *female* homosexuality is in Romans.

It might not be mentioned because around that time and with that culture, women were not thought to be horny and want sex all the time. Women were expected to stay at home with the children and not go out without their husbands.

Every time I hear someone condemn gays while cheering on homosexuals the logic they use is thus, "Well girls don't know any better once they get a man then they will see the light, Guys are smarter so should know better."

So three votes for some version of sexism/hypocrisy and two for "it's somewhere else", then? That was about what I had been able to come up with on my own.

Also, congrats to whoever jackfaire has been talking to for winning the "most sexist thing I have ever heard" award. I can't decide whether to bust up laughing or curl up in a ball and weep for humanity.

It's not a common thought. Most guys I know that like watching lesbians don't mind gay guys they just don't want to watch them.

actually oddly enough, when I asked one of the douchebags I know about this, he asked me "What is it with women and gay guys?"

                  Me: um....what?!

They started going on about how they've known mates who've been paid at parties to engage in some male on male action so to speak....:eyeroll:

Anyway, regarding the Bible thing, my usual argument is along these lines...

"So the churches that DO recognise gay marriage aren't real churches then?"

Alternately, I use aline from The Da Vinci Code.

"The Bible did not arrive by fax from heaven. All man has to do is say that he is speaking through God and he could write anything he pleases, all while saying that He told him. I could say that God told me to write a new version of the Bible that requires everybody to love homosexuals, that abortion is not sinful etc."

You have to remember, also, that the Bible is a series of books written by many different authors over the course of hundreds of years in a society that was patriarchal and largely misogynistic. Women were generally viewed as property, and the laws regarding women reflect this. It didn't matter if a woman had sex with another woman, because she belonged to either her father or her husband, and he could punish her as he saw fit.

The fact that the Bible even mentions homosexuality shows that homosexuality has been around for a long time. Which seems to go against the insipid claims that legalizing same-sex marriage will cause the human race to die out.
"The future is always born in pain... If we are wise what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world." --G'Kar, "Babylon 5"

An interesting point. I recall reading a theory somewhere that being homosexual was actually evolutionarily beneficial, because people who were homosexual would contribute any extra resources they had to their close relatives instead of having to provide for their own kids. While they weren't reproducing, their relatives were able to produce more offspring and so their genes were indirectly passed on.

The trouble is, many of them believe precisely that.

But it's true!!!!!! All the so-called "heterosexuals" I know really like gay sex better, and only pretend because they want a legal marriage!!!!

That video should be legally required for all Christians to view on a daily basis until they realize just how insane and fucking stupid they are.

In order to realize this idea, I, Wingates Hellsing do form the Christian Realization of InSanity Team... CRIsT

We're going to need 80 billion for billboards and TV spots, 90 billion for legal, and a few hundred thousand for a dedicated dubbing bay so as to ensure that this clip survives any an all format changes.

To run this thing for the next millennium or two is going to take dedication, and some serious dough... Who's with us!?
