  • Pope billboards defaced

    http://www.timesofmalta.com/articles...line-sensation

Apparently, at first it fell rather flat cuz people in Malta thought that the grafitti depicted pandas. The vandals also defaced the Pope's face with a Hitler mustache in protest at the ongoing child abuse scandal.

Well what do you expect? The church at this stage is blaming everyone that isn't a faithful church goer for "using this as a means to try and bring down the sanctity <snicker> of the Catholic Church."

And no, I'm not making it up. They've been blaming atheists, Jews, Muslims, the media, more than a few non-catholic countries for this.

They're just pissed that someone has dared to call them out over things. Namely, the sex scandals of recent years. Had the Church (and by that I mean the *leadership*) actually dealt with the offenders, instead of just moving them around and covering it up...none of this would have happened.

Supposedly, there is a priest who, several years ago in Wisconsin, molested many many many many kids....and this Pope supposedly knows about it, with some pretty heavy proof.

According to the news, he denies it all and refuses further comments.

No wonder. I'd be defacing anything with him on it as well.

Seems Section XIII should make itself known.

I just think it hilarious that Pedobear was used. XD Tho, Shotacat would have been more fitting.

I would have liked to see a little Chris Hanson in there, too.

Well at the moment the Catholic church is blaming all the child abuse amongst the priesthood on homosexuality.

That would have been full of win.

Ah yes, I knew I missed one there.

Can't really blame me though. The list of types of people being blamed seems to grow by the day. I wonder if Phelps will start declaring that the Pope agrees with him.

That I can at least understand; it's an entirely too common error. The one blaming the negative publicity (not the abuse, not the coverup, but the fact that the press is covering it) directly on the devil is far worse. Because that's essentially saying that such behavior ought not be exposed and those who did it punished... which means they're still putting the RCC's good public image ahead of actually earning it by doing good.\

I cannot imagine how stressful this must be on practicing Catholics.

He wouldn't say that, Lord Lundlar. He thinks the Pope is going to hell.

Me either. IMO, the best thing the Church could do is replace all the top ranking Vatican officials, including His Holiness, apologize publicly and profusely for the scandals and cover-ups, and ask for the people's forgiveness. AND, actively participate in criminal and civil investigations against pedophile priests. A little mea culpa could go a long way.

I doubt that would actually happen. All too often the higher ups in many religions including Catholicism prefer to hide the problem and lie rather than deal with it.
