  • It's called Ramadan you idiots!

    http://www.planetfeedback.com/disney...oudlal+/326668

    Wow.

I fail to see how celebrating Ramadan=caving into Muslim fundamentalists.

Only reason why I know it's Ramadan is that there's been a bit of hubub around here and all the Muslim girls on campus who don't normally wear a head covering of some description are wearing a head covering around campus.

For the unfamiliar, if I remember correctly, at the bare minimum, the hijab (the head covering that reveals the WHOLE face) is required to be worn when you go to mosque, at an Islamic school and during certain religious festivals (i.e. Ramadan)

    What do people think?

I think if I signed up to post a reply, it would be the fastest ban on record for that site.

In all honesty, the "islamic radicals" remark at the end caused me to see red.

If she worked there for multiple years then why is this an issue only recently?

I'd say maybe she just rediscovered her faith and chose to partake in the religious holiday once again.

            Here's my reply:

Americans like you (OP) are the reason why the US is seen as backwards to other developed nations. One of our founding principles is Freedom of Religion. It doesn't matter that she decided to wear it today, yesterday or whenever, but the United States has a sacred oath to allow the freedom of religion you're hoping to restrain. The laws must apply to everyone, Muslim-Americans as well as Christian-Americans, or they mean nothing!

Because it goes against the dress code.

Whats the federal law that says you get to wear a head scarf?

There is also a law that allows businesses to hire based on the atmoshphere they want if it is important to the business. This is why a place like Hooters can exist.

Umm, Federal Discrimination Laws require that workplaces make reasonable accommodations for an employee's religious beliefs, wearing a headscarf in religious observation is not an unreasonable request.

I just wonder if they also prohibit crucifixes and yarmulkes.

Exactly. It shouldn't matter if she has been a life long Muslim or just joined or rediscovered her faith. Does a religious headscarf really take away from the "costume"?

I Honestly thought so too. Until I read this from a HR research area.

If it /ruins/ the image of the company, they can request you not to wear it. Even if it's your religion.
