  • A sucker is born every minute

So this pastor convinces his followers that his jizz is holy and only by taking it in the mouth can they be saved. He's arrested and now people are acting like he pissed in their wheaties because it's not true.

So by his logic, I'm blessing my boyfriend every weekend?

      Great title.

All right, the whole thing's stupid, but if someone had convinced you that this was true and you acted accordingly, wouldn't *you* be mad when you found out the truth? Anger compounded by embarrassment, aimed at any and all convenient targets, seems like it would be the expected result.

A lot of the comments I've seen are ragging on the victims for their gullibility, but it's not much more unbelievable than a lot of other official dogma.

um, exactly what was his crime? nothing was done that was not consensual, and there is no hint of minors being involved...

While it might not be law down there, here in the US some jurisdictions have laws treating consensual sex through deception/fraud as rape.

California, Tennessee, and New York all have laws on the books citing the use of deception or fraud to gain consent as rape.

It's unfortunate that these kinds of con men are out there, and they do a lot of harm.

But there is a big difference between what this guy did, and the dogmas of various religions.

Religious dogma (official teachings) is about improving human spirituality.

There are four warning signs that can alert people to when a religious teaching crosses the line between improving spirituality to becoming either fanaticism or self serving. I got this list from CNN, and it's pretty on the mark.

This guy fits the category of Warning #2: beware the charismatic leader. He used his charm and position to elicit behavior from his followers that benefited only him.

That he abused his position of trust has nothing to do with the basic doctrines of Christianity, however. Christ warned us of false prophets who would lead Christians astray . . . this guy is one of them.

Just the fact that Christianity in general says sex is supposed to be saved for married couples (whether most people follow that or not) and then the pastor is basically soliciting sex acts from people, you'd think that would raise some eyebrows among the flock.

I would suggest that this is one of the dangers inherent when people allow others to tell them what their own religious doctrine says rather than taking the time and effort to read it themselves.

You'd think. Problem is, some people would rather have the church do their thinking for them, rather than put in the effort it really requires.

Which was the thinking behind the Protestant notion of Sola Scriptura. Even the Catholic Church (as of Vatican II) encourages people to actually read the Bible for themselves and try to understand it; prior to that many Catholics did not own a bible or think they were supposed to read it.

This is what happens when indoctrination commences before critical thinking skills are developed. And it's not at all surprising to those of us that didn't fall into that.

Unless the willing participants had a mental disability or were under the age of consent, i don't see a crime here.

If you're willing to engage in oral sex with a man because he tells you the holy spirit has blessed his balls, it's your own problem for being a gullible idiot.

The problem with it that I have is that it is sexual abuse. What's the difference between this guy and a pedophile priest?

                            None.

Since he is a religious leader, and religions don´t really have to make that much sense.

If he clains he honestly believes his sperm is sacred, and since he didn´t actually forced anyone, just likeany other religious preacher, he told them what he believed was right and asked them to do it.(without it being necessarily a crime. Oral sex is not illegal though it´s circumstances can be).

                              Can he really be condemned?

wrong as this may be, I don´t really see a crime here.

To me it is not that different from saying that people must pay money or donate their time to the church for religious reasons.
