Some nutjobs want to stage a fake mass shooting on the University Of Texas campus. Calling it "Crisis Performance Art" as part of an effort to end gun free zones such as schools.

( Not only is this insanely bad taste, but this is also the campus where Charles Whitman climbed to the top of the tower and, well, yeah. )

UT has told them it'll be considered criminal trespass if they step on campus with this lunacy. So they're taking the lunacy to a public street next to the campus. So they are now going to stage a fake mass shooting on a public street. Complete with fake blood, sounds of gunfire, etc.

Why? For freedom of course!

It'd be sad irony if one of the fake shooters gets taken down by a good samaritan.

Or the real police, for that matter. At best, you're going to scare a lot of people out of their wits, and people don't always take the soundest actions when out of their wits. Also tying up emergency lines with people calling 911. And there is no rationally conceivable good to balance it. We're already aware these things happen, thanks.

I'm not in favor of gun free zones, but I can't wrap my head around such lunacy. I literally cannot conceive of how they expect this to even have any relevance to their stated position, much less how they could possibly think it would work.

There's a difference between raising people's awareness and just pushing people's buttons. These students clearly have not learned the difference.
