  • Woman streams aftermath of fatal officer-involved shooting

I believe the lady in this story. I believe what she said about her Fiancee reaching for his license and registration.

The woman in the story said that the gentleman who was shot (and died) told the officer he was armed, and had a concealed carry, and was reaching for his license and registration.

This story did actually make me shake my head.

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/07/07/us/fal...ota/index.html

Overreaction, for sure. Though I haven't seen the body cam footage, it seems to me, based on the article and what the woman said, that the guy who was shot did everything right. I guess his "mistake" (if you want to call it that) was telling the officer that he was armed and had a concealed carry, and/or that he didn't stop reaching for his license fast enough for the officer.

His only mistake was driving while black.

I can't even muster the emotions to be angry any more. This happens far too frequently.

I just feel sad. And this is the second fatal shooting in what? 48 hours?

Something like that. I didn't see a lot of the details of the other one, though.

The Baton Rouge incident, and I speak those words with all the vile I can muster. Is going to end up being a cluster. Both officers had body cams that "were not working." and only the dash cam footage that shows nothing was available.

My personal opinion they were going to play the shout "hes armed" for the camera game. Then the cell phone footage went viral.

I am really getting tired of this shit.

I don't have all the details, but that sounds very, very suspicious to me.

              Probably good for your health.

After Tamar Rice and Eric Garner, I'm predicting nothing will happen to this cop. Grand jury will refuse to indict, if it gets that far.

Same. Its gone past all the stages of grief and gone straight into just straight up absurd. Its become so routine and no one seems to give a fuck to do anything to fix it.

I guess if nothing else it'll be interesting to see how the media, NRA and crew try to spin this one. Guy has no rap sheet and is a legal CCW holder so they can't plunge straight into the usual victim blaming "thug" routine.

I'm sure by the weekend we'll hear about that one time he took two puffs of a cigarette in high school.

I don't know all the details, but right now seems like a complete overreaction by the officer.

The guy who got shot told the officer that he had a CCL and was armed. The woman said he wasn't belligerent (which I believe). He obviously didn't get out of his car, and it sounded like he was trying to politely cooperate.

                  Should have never happened.

It doesn't justify the shooting, but it probably wasn't racially motivated this time. It's a more-or-less open secret that while there may not be official quotas for people stopped, officers are encouraged to stop a certain number of people per shift. If the officer was a little low, they could have stopped the guy for a broken taillight since it's an easy stop. However, when the guy reached for his license and registration, the officer probably thought he was reaching for his gun, since someone with a gun known to be in the car reaching for the glovebox is one of the known warning signs for a stop about to go bad. Combine that with a cop who the witness said looked tense, and the truth is easy enough to divine. the cop took the shot out of, basically, paranoia due to bad luck.

While the officer should be punished, i'm not sure he should be either dismissed or charged for this one, to be honest. the officer overreacted, but it was fairly close to circumstances where the shot would be legitimate. I think the cop needs more training in how to differentiate between a situation where hes about to get shot and an innocent one, but it is different enough to the usual cop shooting someone story that I wouldn't lump it together.

All in all, though, it's a tragedy no matter what way you look at it.

I vote charged if what the witness said is true ( That he was literally doing what the officer asked him to do after informing the officer he was a CCW holder ).

Also you would think training on when and when not unload into someone would be pretty high on the list at police academy. Especially not unloading into a vehicle with a 4 year old in the back seat.

The officer was freaking out more than the victim or the passenger.

As for the first shooting I just don't even know. I have never seen or heard of an officer shooting a suspect point blank in the chest that they had pinned to the ground.

Exactly. Especially since the woman said that he calmly told the officer he had a CCL and that he was armed, and was reaching for his registration/insurance.

I really haven't, either. Tazing, sure, I've heard of that. But not actually shooting someone like that.

And now there's a straight up firefight at a protest in Dallas.

                          Sigh.

                              Police scanner audio:

Officer: I’m going to stop a car...I’m going to check IDs. I have reason to pull it over. The two occupants just look like people who have been involved in a robbery. The driver looked more like one of our suspects, just ‘cause of the wide-set nose.
So, he shot someone because he can't tell black people apart and I don't know, assumed that people bring their 4 year old to armed robberies.
