  • Extreme Bulling & Homophobia In School

We've all been bullied about something, but more often than not at least something was done about it. Unfortunately that was not the case. There was an 11 year old that hung himself after being mercilessly teased and bullied by his peers about being gay, despite the fact that he wasn't. Even after his death nothing has been done on the school administration's part for whatever bullshit reason. There are others (unfortunately) similar to this young boy's tragic story.

I'd suggest that the problem lies with the child. Instead of committing suicide, they should be getting their hands on guns and going 'postal' - especially on the bullies and teachers.

(yes, I'm being facetious! But I'd say, that'd be one way to get a school to take a look at what they do and how they treat people... wouldn't be so flippant or ignorant next time!)
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

What pissed me off (I'm a straight female btw) is that when one group had a vow of silence for a day about the homophobic bullying at the school the religious group did a walk out. Why? Because the religious group felt that they were trying to "promote an immoral lifestyle". Bullshit. That was about promoting tolerance.

I'm sickened by their actions. However, I'm not surprised. Most religious people are taught to hate and abuse people who do not follow their religions, or anyone who is different from them in any way. I actually think that, deep down, most of them are cheering on the bullies in these cases. And in regards to the suicides, I wouldn't be surprised if they are quietly saying to themselves, "Great, one less homo to put up with in this world."

This makes me so sad. These children go to adults and nothing is done. The School doesn't care and lives are lost this way. The bullies are getting a free ride in this. If no one stops them then the bullies will grow up to do this into adult hood.

with that teacher in the story in the last link I wouldn't be facetious... hell, I'd stand up in trial and proudly proclaim I was not guilty of murder because murder requires the victim be human which that teacher has no right to be called. I would however, once again proudly, plead guilty to animal abuse.

On a slightly different note... bullying will never be completely removed... not as long as Utah is still in existence and people here have no problem voting men like Chris Buttars to office (this is a man who takes pride in insuring that it is legal to fire someone in this state because they are gay, who takes pride in taking away hospital visitation rights, who sees nothing wrong with going on national TV to explain how gays are going to destroy america, who compares bills he doesn't like to ugly black babies).

IF you were one of the few lucky ones. Most of us, I daresay, were not - including myself.

I hate bullies and hope there is a special hell for them, but some bullies really DO need to be shot on sight.

This just helps strangthen my resolve of what I am going to do with my life. I can't stand all these churches spouting off the hatemongering and spreading fear based on lies they have been fed and believe.
I feel I've been called into the ministry, but have a lot to learn before I do so. My church will be open to anyone who wants to worship. If gay/lesbian/transgendered people being in my church offends you, go somewhere else. God loves them too and they have just as much right to him as anyone else.

                        Bravo!

                        (And good luck with that.)

Not necessarily. Sooner or later, the bully will pick on the *wrong* person...who will deal with them accordingly. I went to school with a guy who had that happen to him. Seems he tried to attack someone he thought was weaker. The kid, apparently knew some martial arts...and beat the shit out of him

Long before that, the kid thought it would be funny to push me down some stairs...all because I wouldn't let him cheat off me in class. Shortly after that, he left me alone. Seems that one of the football players, who I've known for years...since his sister was in my class.... along with some teammates, had a little "come to Jesus meeting" with the asshole. After that, he left me alone, and no, I had no part in that. I didn't even know about it until years later.

What I'm trying to say is, eventually they will get what's coming. These people (and I'm being nice) only understand one thing. Force. Trying to brush them off doesn't work, neither does telling a teacher. All that does is piss them off, and possibly make them bolder. What they need, is for someone to pick them up by the shirt, and say "look you little shit..." Maybe after that, they'll realize that their actions aren't tolerated.

It rarely works that way though--what usually happens, is that the bully gets the shit beat out of him eventually.

I agree that force is usually the only way to deal with bullies.

I know that the two bullies that gave me the most hell in school and that I eventually stopped from doing that I did with force. In each case, I finally snapped and decided I wasn't taking their shit anymore, and went after them physically. Between the shock of being attacked by me AND the shock of the viciousness and effectiveness of my attack, neither one of these two yahoos ever bothered me again. The first one I sent to the nurse's office, after the teachers pried my hands from around his neck. The second one got off lighter, but only because a teacher intervened more quickly, and ended up getting unintentionally clocked by me for his efforts.

In both cases, my point was made with force. In both cases, the bullying stopped. Combined punishment for the two incidents six years apart? One day of suspension for the latter incident. My only suspension ever from school.

I am sure there are some bullies that can be reasoned with on some level. I just have not met those types myself. Bullies understand strong vs. weak, and only change their behavior when confronted by the fact that they may be the weak one. It usually comes as quite a shock to them. I know it did to Michael and Gary.
