University of Texas to Treat Masculinity as a 'Mental Health' Issue
From the University Web-page using the link given.
The MasculinUT program does not treat masculinity as a “mental health issue,” and any such statements are simply not accurate. It was established to bring more men to the table to address interpersonal violence, sexual assault and other issues.
We've been there through primaries and general elections; the U.S. border crisis; doctored climate change data; the gunrunners' scandal; Department of Justice voter fraud and the Ground Zero mosque -- stories that others in the media initially passed by.
It gives a picture into the style of reporting. But in the end they made a judgment call on a program that is not even up and running based on very little evidence. Placing what out of context quotes they could, the rest being more opinion braised 'fear mongering'.
Until someone actually reports what is going on. Like attending an actual program, or interviewing students and staff who have. I am going to file this away as more Click Bait.
Violence has resolved more conflicts than anything else. The contrary opinion that violence doesn't solve anything is merely wishful thinking at its worst. - Starship Troopers
I'm lucky my boyfriend doesn't pander to this. He gets perceived as gay or female a good deal of the time because he's small in stature and hairless except for his head. Which has long hair. But he doesn't give a fuck and I love him the way he is
So, when are we going to start treating femininity as a mental health issue?
Femininity has always been treated as a mental health issue. Remember, traditionally "normal people" are supposed to be confident and assertive, standing up for their own needs and defending themselves against abuse. While traditionally "normal women" are supposed to be polite and amiable (never "egotistical"), go with the crowd, subordinate their own desires to those of others, not make waves, and especially not make a fuss when they don't get what they want.
Therefore, "normal women" are not "normal people", so we need more shrinks! /s See also the book "They Say You're Crazy", by Paula J. Caplan. IIRC, her breaking point was when she was junior member of the team writing the new DSM, and the other (male) members casually decided to add a "masochistic personality disorder" whose symptoms just happened to match the effects of ongoing abuse.
