She was complaining about sniffles, and an antihistamine alone takes care of the drippy nose and itchy eyes. Those are available out on the shelf and don't require ID or a log to purchase. A decongestant takes care of the stuffy head.

I agree with you on the sudafed thing though, phenylephrine is complete crap. Hence why I loaded up on some sudafed when I was in Washington this last week.

Ah. Good point. Actually, now that I think about it, they don't ID for allergy meds...I mean, I use Alavert and that's right on the shelf...no ID required.... What kind of allergy med requires ID, unless it's the kind that is also a decongestant?

Just the stuff with pseudoephedrine in it, as it is an ingredient for meth.

And if you're in Canada, you show ID to purchase meds with small amounts of codeine like 222's.

My daughter, who is over the age of consent, called me laughing last month. It seems the convience store worker asked to see her ID when she was purchasing condoms. My daughter, who is not shy, asked the clerk what age did she need to be to have safe sex. The clerk was nice about it and my daughter does look young for her age. No, she did not show her ID.
OK, now THAT is funny. Although, there are other legitimate reasons for purchasing condoms (used as water balloons, hold other liquids, covering up other things to prevent water getting in etc.) so that one's still a bit questionable. But then again, you can also get condoms for free (the uni keeps a bucket on the table, so does my counselling office (it's a doctor's clinic as well) and the women's room.) at most places.

In regards to both of those, there was someone who died of a Panadol overdose some time ago. Her parents called for those medications, particularly ones with codeine in it, to be pulled from supermarket shelves and restricted to behind the counter and over at chemists only. Thing is though, if you're buying more than maybe 5 boxes of panadol at my work, you get a funny look...

We, in the theatre, put mic packs in condoms to keep them from getting wet (actors get really sweaty).

Panadol (acetamenophen) is hell on your liver, which is why you should keep under 4000mg per day.

Mouthwash, like methylated spirits has additives that make you sick, as in vomiting sick, you have to be a hardcore alcoholic who's been building up an immunity to it for ages to be able to drink it.

Most rubbing alcohol is Isopropyl which will kill you, and you don't need much, although again usually there's other additives in it.

I keep to under that anyway, but most people tend to buy 1 or 2 packets anyway. Any more than that and you start to wonder what's going on...

Eh, it's not like they're snorting it to get high. Lots of people load up on that and other medications when they're on sale, so I'm not too horribly concerned.

Now if someone came up with lube, condoms and a garden gnome, I may lift an eyebrow

When I was 16, I was denied being able to buy Freedom Writers, which is a PG-13 movie. I didn't argue, I just gave it to my then boyfriend, who had his purchases behind me and gave him the money to get it.

But seriously, this carding people for getting items that could be this or that? Everything could be used to make/consume drugs or make weapons! MacGuyver could tell you that. =P

WEIRDEST THING EVER CARDED FOR: Bicycle pump.

Yep. Got carded for a bicycle pump in a Kmart.

STUPIDEST USE FOR MOUTHWASH: Yes, mouthwash will make you sick before it makes you drunk. Or so I've heard. (actually, we were kids and I swear to you not trying to get drunk. We were pretending it was wine or something...and we only used a few dabs of it to dye the water we were drinking. If we'd drunk it straight, we probably would have landed in the ER. As it was, we were sick enough to learn to never do that again. )

WEIRD USE FOR CONDOMS: used a slice of one for a gasket on a fishtank pump.

What would you do illicitly with a bicycle pump? Wouldn't make a good bong, I suppose it could be used as a weapon but then, so could a pair of stilettos.

Penis pump? That's not illegal as far as I know....

There's some sort of hufifng thing young idiots do with it to get a high, but I'm not sure of the details. Could easily be some sort of legend put about to see how many idiots try it.

Might be stupid, but it happens a lot more than you think. On our Aboriginal reservations, because alcohol is illegal, they've turned to other sources for it, and mouthwash is now incredibly popular (Methylated spirits has been clamped down on by the government). So, apparently, there'll be large sales of the super-sized mouthwash bottles happening regularly during the week.

If you check the alcohol %, you'll see why!

ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.
