My father was a cop that died in the line of duty. It would have been pretty silly to get uptight about him asking about my day.
I've also met too many dirty cops to assume they're all anywhere near as honorable as my father was.
The uniform is intimidating and ignoring that insults our intelligence and leads to more animosity toward cops. To anyone every harrassed by one cop getting singled out by another is not stress free.

I'm not. I've seen other posts of yours that make it look like if a cop says anything to a person, that officer is harassing that person.

What makes you dislike cops so much? Did one do something substantial to you?

As far as I know there are no such laws. If some gets "hassled", there's generally a reason for it. Yes, I've run into a few bad cops here; they didn't last long once the captain found out.

I know most of the beat cops and metermaids in my town...does that mean I've ever committed a crime? No. Just being friendly.

I always carry my ID just because it's been drilled into me. Not so much out of "zomg cops could ask for it!" paranoia more than "it's just a one-ounce card, it never hurts to have it".

Stores could ask for ID (liquor, some credit card purchases, lotto at times if I'm not going to my "regular" convenience store)
My bank may as well (some transactions, any changes I may need to make to my account).
Putting a hold request for mail doesn't need ID, but picking up held mail does.
It also goes without saying that if I'm traveling by plane, train or buying a bus ticket it's needed.

My discount-fare transit pass does have a photo, but as far as I know that's not valid for anything other than making sure the owner of the pass is the one using it.

I wasn't implying that. Why do you get so defensive on rights supposedly being violated when a post states a cop asked someone for ID or did a consent search of a vehicle?

Can cops do anything right in your opinion?

I don't agree that everyone should have I.D. if they aren't driving or buying restricted items.

Ok I think I over-reacted a bit. My apologies.

This thread is sort of about rights, aka, when a cop is going above and beyond to just be an asshole and try to catch you doing something when you're not, but it wasn't about carrying ID or not, because everyone should always have ID on themselves, given anything can happen at anytime.

Maybe I titled the thread wrong, because my friend wasn't playing DD....it just seems like if cops are treating every car on the road at night this way, then more people are probably going to change their mind about playing DD, and people like me who have to drive to work at night are going to have to really watch ourselves, even though we haven't been drinking and aren't doing anything wrong.

I've dealt with cops like that. There used to be one here in town, a little Asian guy with a serious Napoleon complex who tended to harass high school students because he could, and my mom and I were once stopped in the car by a "Terminator" who flipped out because of a sticker problem (car was registered in RI and they only required stickers on one license plate at the time this happened)...the cop in the latter situation was completely disrespectful, never actually told us what the problem was and both of us were scared that he would do something.

Sadly, some do join the force just to be able to carry a gun and bully people without much fear of repercussions.
