Just for argument's sake let me try to take the opposite side.
There are an unknown number of pedophiles that refuse to act on their thoughts, but only so long as no youth actively askes them.
This "poor guy" gets hit with the one event he wasn't expecting.

There's no way of knowing how many, but there's no doubt that there are people with pedophilic tendencies who never act on them. I can understand someone like that being blind-sided by this sort of thing.

But... a mature adult should understand that if a 13 year-old hits on them, that 13 year-old is probably not psychologically healthy. Is it possible that some 13 year-olds know exactly what they're doing and what they want? Sure. But the odds are vanishingly low.

Let's put this in more familiar terms. My husband looks at other women, and I'm sure he has a few fantasies about them. Maybe he fantasizes about our scantily-clad neighbour. Maybe when he sees her wandering about the yard with her bikini on, he's mentally writing a letter to Penthouse. That doesn't bother me, because he's not acting on that fantasy.

But if she came across the yard and aggressively seduced him, and succeeded, I would have a problem with that. Because he knows it's wrong to cheat. Just as a pedophile should know better than to assume a 13 year-old can consent to a healthy sexual partnership, regardless of how she's acting towards him. Both situations have some mitigating circumstances, to be sure, but the responsibility to do the right thing lies with the pedophile, just as it's my husband's responsibility to live up to our vows.

But honestly how many kids both look AND sound adult?
I personally met a 15 year old that looked quite yummy but smelled like a pre-teen. It really weirded me out.

I've carded quite a few who looked adult, but acted like teens and who ended up actually being teenagers. As well as quite a few girls who obviously thought that by caking makeup on and dressing like prostitutes that they looked older, but just looked as tho they'd gotten into mummy's makeup bag.

I would have to see the female in question to understand if the rape charges were really morally valid.
Maybe he thought my space was a playground and lying was so common as not to matter.

Either way, anyone remember Traci Lords? She starred in numerous porns despite being 16. I've seen some stills and she looks WAY WAY older than that.
Still, I feel a little untrusting of the she said she was 18 excuses. If you're going to have promiscuous sex, then you should be prepared for it.

I'm not blaming the girl, not at all, but the parents and even the 15 year old should know better.

You would think the parents know better, but some of them just don't care enough to enforce the rules.

It's not about being a parent these days, it's about being your child's buddy, which I suspect is a part of the problem. This mom thinks she's being a "cool" parent and her daughter's "Friend."

As my mom says: you choose your friends, you don't give birth to them.

IMO that 12 year old girl should be taken from her sorry excuse for a mother and sent to live with her father and the 15 year old should be sent home to his parents and made to get a job and pay child support.

I think that you're dead on the money about the whole "being your child's friend thing". While you're bringing them up, be their parent; plenty of time once they've grown into a responsible adult to be their friend. I'm friends with my mum now, but when I was a kid she parented me; I can still remember all the verbal fights. XD
