  • Thieves target grieving family

Family was at funeral home while thieves stole items at their house

This is the second case of thieves targetting grieving families. The first case happened a few weeks earlier and the grieving family was actually attacked.

I can't believe this. These people are already in mourning for there son and now they have to deal with a robbery too.

It's heart breaking to think about, but is anyone really surprised? Thieves, by definition, have low moral standards.

Funny that this comes up- just the other day my SO and I were talking about burglaries.

According to him, this is not uncommon. The burglars peruse the local newspapers looking through the obits for funeral dates. Since it is almost assured the entire family will be at the funeral, they know the house will be empty and easy pickings.

His family and friends always picked an extended family relative, neighbor or close friend who was not close to the deceased to stay at their homes when they went to funerals for just this reason.

In his case, he prevented a burglary because he was at the friend's house when the guy tried to break in.

So. Find someone you trust. Ask them to hang out for a bit next time a family member dies. Sad. I know.

            Even music pirates?
There's a big difference between most thieves, burglars, and home invaders. We shouldn't group them except when discussing criminals as a whole.
There's always a way to make one crime, the taking of things belonging to others, worse.
