of all the gay guys i've met (and it's only been five or so), you'd only know they were gay if you were told. are most gay guys like this, or are they more the stereotype?

I believe it would be gamut OR spectrum, to be proper, not use of both.
As for the topic: I've met some people that conform to stereotype. I've met people that haven't. And that goes for pretty much ALL stereotypes.Any comment I make should not be taken as an absolute, unless I say it should be. Even this one.

From the thread title I thought this was going to ask if gay men were castrated.
How do you know that you've only met five gay men? If The Gays out there are just like, well, guys instead of outing themselves with their sissy behavior, then every man you've met could potentially be gay!
Gay men, like everyone else, vary in their gender.
And I vehemently disagree with the implication that men who do not meet a certain standard of masculinity are no longer men.
Here is a good article for you to read:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_(gay_culture). I picked this because bears are the most hypermasculine gay men I could think of.

*responding to thread title* *checks self* yup, still there
*responding to OP* yes, there are gay guys who are the stereotype, I've met some of them, and I admit that there are times when I meet some of the stereotypes... but you know what, I've met straight guys who fit into the gay stereotype too. I'll second (or whatever number we're up to) the people saying that gay guys, just like straight, run the full spectrum."I'm Gar and I'm proud" -slytovhand
