  • Radio stunt gone wrong....

    First one

    Second one...

Basically, a radio stunt (which apparently had been going on for a while) where a person is strapped to a lie detector and aske questions by relative/partner etc, went a bit wrong when a 14 year old "girl was asked in a live lie detector test - in front of her mother - whether she had ever had sex. She started to cry, and then said: “I got raped when I was 12 years old.”

[quote]Silence. Then this, from Sandilands: “Right ... is that the only experience you’ve had?” [q/uote]

Now, everyone wants him crucified (personally, I've never really had much liking for the guy, so why not?? ), but I see this as someone who is thrown out of their depth.. he's not trained as a counsellor, nor psychologits, so give the guy a break... he stuffed up, he's apologised... let it go!

    Thoughts??
ZOE: Preacher, don't the Bible got some pretty specific things to say about killing?

SHEPHERD BOOK: Quite specific. It is, however, Somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

I'm sure he's very popular with the pedophiles, who drooled over hearing that. It's not surprising for a society that is continually lowering the age for when girls are able to be sexualized.

Well, as soon as he got that response, he should have shut up immediately. No more questions were necessary. But I mean, you can only crucify a guy for an honest mistake for so long.

I really wish people would use that term properly. Most child rapists are not pedophiles, and most pedophiles are not child rapists. Those that get off on people crying is probably a minority among all rapists.
Still, not everyone acts sensibly when blindsided with trauma. It's easy to judge when sitting comforably in our chairs.

You don't have to have training as a councilor or psychologist to have common sense and decency. As soon as she started crying, and ESPECIALLY after she revealed the rape, he should have shut up and stopped the show.

I see it that way as well. His mindset at the time of that confession would have been far from the sort that one would require to reply to such a statement tactfully. He would have been trying to keep things light and humourous...and BAM! Tragedy is mentioned. And here he is live, with the constant pressure of avoiding dead air at all costs...and he says the wrong thing. He screwed up and he admitted it. I don't think that one can jump to any conclusions about his character based on this one incident. It could have happened to almost anyone.

This is better than the yokels on a local radio show here who were laughing at a recording on air of someone getting beheaded. They lost their jobs over that one and the station did a lot of reconfiguring to distance themselves from the whole mess.

It is easy saying that he should have stopped it. But put yourself in his shoes. The show was suppose to be for fun. Something tragic was said, so all he can think of, is getting on with the shoe. So that they could past that awkward moment.

Overreacting much? I think the guy wasn't expecting that and just blurted out anything.

It had to be an awkward and unexpected moment, I think the people who are griping should get over themselves.

What Flyn is saying is that most pedophiles don't have sex with children. They know it's wrong, so they resist their urges. Just like you can stop yourself from having sex with every attractive woman you see.

There is no link between pedophilia and poor impulse control or criminality.

Apart from what Boozy said, the psychology behind the acts is different.

And statistics on non-criminals is rather scant. No sane person would ever admit to such thoughts. They would get lynched.

Actually, the term Pedophile has nothing to do with having sex with children at all. It's merely being attracted to them. Pederasts are the ones that have sex with them.

It's a VERY common mistake, mostly because people don't realize the difference, and really, in the end, it doesn't matter much because everyone knows what is being said due to the context.

I'm not so sure. It's like how homosexuals were once grouped in with child molestors. Making such verbal mistakes lead to assumptions.

I think mental health professionals label pedophiles those that feel sexual attraction to children, AND are bothered by it or act on it. Just feelings aren't enough.
